They're called condensation trails, been around since aircraft were able to fly high enough to produce them, bomber pilots during WWII tried to avoid creating them as they were great targeting aids for enemy fire.

Live in Australia with a family of 'Butcher' birds but have seen those little things taking on the occasional Wedgetail eagle. The eagles feet are probably bigger than a butchy!
