After Wes Streeting's Today prog debut as Alan "I'm 100 per cent Faithful" Carr this morning - let the Celebrity Traitors 'Labour MPs edition' begin.
Luckily for Starmer, so far, no-one wants to be Jonathan - the traitor who has to be sacrificed for someone else to win (see Tom Watson, series 1).

Painful to see Labour do so badly in its Welsh heartland, but heartening to see people do want to stop Reform.
A lesson for Labour: it's more than possible to win with a bold, redistributive offer, rather than tanking to the right to stop Reform.
But time is running out.

We're going to hear a lot about a divided Wales as the #CaerphillyByElection results are digested over next few days, ahead of Senedd elections next May.
So, here's a bid for the 'real South Wales' with a short film from our #IslandOfStrangers series...

Vote closes tmrw for Labour Deputy Leader... if you're eligible + haven't already voted, do consider my teenage partner-in-crime, @lucympowell.bsky.social.
She'd be a Deputy Leader with Clem's vision, Prezza's pugilism... and none of the qualities of Nick Clegg.

I hesitated writing this.
I hate that bit of politics/media where everyone's chummy and not holding each other to account. But pretending you don't know someone is dishonest.
So here's why my mate @lucympowell.bsky.social would be a brilliant Labour Deputy Leader.

In a radio interview, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage suggested that eastern European migrants are taking and killing swans from Royal Parks and carp from ponds across the UK to eat

Hearing this I feel the world has slipped a little off its axis, and then I think somewhere in the In Our Time archive there is probably an entire episode dedicated to this concept scientifically, philosophically or both.
Melvyn Bragg has decided to stand down as host of In Our Time, the BBC says.

When our politics is so horrible and broken, a very classy & human response from @eddavey.libdems.org.uk to Angela Rayner's statement.

Remember the plausible fascist Viv Rook's 'Erstwhile sites' from the brilliant drama Years and Years?

And then have a listen to what Kemi Badenoch is proposing.

Years and Years was supposed to be a warning, not a manifesto.

“I said if something doesn’t change, there will be civil disorder in this country,” Sacha Bedding tells @roswynnejones.bsky.social, reflecting on last year's riots.

"In order to fix the foundations of our democracy, we must act boldly and do things differently."

Once again the Telegraph is shaming itself with its reporting of the hotels issue, now in Epping.
Absolute disgrace.

The Birmingham bin strike has descended to a war of words almost as toxic as the piles of rat-infested rubbish residents have been facing in parts of the city.

But in the end the strike comes down to stories like Adrian's.

He was a bin man for 23 years, then his son died and pay was cut by £500 a month
Bin worker Adrian Hyde sadly lost his son to sepsis last year. Just five weeks later Adrian opened a shocking letter from his employer Birmingham City Council.

Every one of the betrayed Afghans is owed a British passport.

But instead of a thank you – the communities they were dispersed into faced petrol bombs, screaming crowds and their accommodation being set on fire in last summer’s riots.

What a welcome.

'Every Afghan hero deserves a UK passport. This country has failed them'
Today, the super-injunction protecting the story behind thousands of Afghans’ secret evacuation has ended. And it is time to thank them for their service

Been thinking all day about Gary O’Donoghue’s lovely interview with Trump - it's got a dreamy intimacy like Trump has phoned into a late night call-in radio show from his couch in his slippers, his voice thick with McDonalds milkshake and regret.

I wrote something about Kemi Badenoch's charmless display of playground bullying at PMQs today - and how Parliament needs to change.
Rachel Reeves is the Chancellor of the Exchequer. She's also a human being like the rest of us.

Bullying isn't banter - Badenoch's PMQs attack on Rachel Reeves crosses a line
Politics is a brutal business but Kemi Badenoch baiting a visibly upset Rachel Reeves at PMQs is just yet another example of the dehumanisation of people in public life

Labour should admit it's made a pig's ear of #WelfareReform, go away, come back with something practical & compassionate.
Draw a line under winter fuel and disability cuts, and say look, sorry, we weren't confident enough to govern as ourselves - but we're ready now.
