And to show how international relations can shift over time - my Great Uncle Noel Frederick Ross served as a gunner on HMS Victorious during the Arctic Convoys of WW2, braving treacherous conditions to supply arms and supplies to the Soviets in the fight against the Nazis.

He was based in the camp under Russian attack at Balaclava in Crimea in 1854. The “Thin Red Line” held - wearing the very uniforms he made. The action was immortalised in Robert Gibb’s painting located in Edinburgh Castle.

I get my first name from my Grandpa’s surname. His family came from Highlands & North East. This is my 4x Great Grandpa, William Ross, Sergeant Master Tailor of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders. He made the uniform he’s wearing - and those of regiment. Served in Corfu, Gibraltar, India, & Crimea.

Keir Starmer and other world leaders have stood by - or in his case, enabled - the deliberate starvation of Palestinians by Israel. It’s a shameful stain on history few of us will ever forget. It’s time to stop this now.

🗓️ For me, 2024 was the year two turned into three when I became a father. There are many challenges in life, but being my son’s Dad is honestly the most life affirming responsibility I’ve ever had.
