Seeing a bunch of comments from teachers lately that their students can't read or are not reading at grade level. And even if they can read the words, they are unable to comprehend or identify the message or meaning of the work. Only surface level. And that this is not new. This troubles me greatly.

PNW coastal country living terms I learned today:

Rhubarb Hat: a hat made out of a rhubarb leaf.

Thin Pie: what you get when you don't have much fruit but still want to make a pie out of it.

Tidal Bore: a strong tide that pushes up the river against the current and forms a wave.
