Pope Leo at Jubilee Audience: Dorothy Day understood that for too many the dream was a nightmare, and that as a Christian she had to involve herself with workers, with migrants, with those cast aside by an economy that kills."

In 1973 I lived in Vienna for 6 months. One day I found myself sitting in the park where they play Strauss music, & I watched a scene play out close by. I was certain that I was watching an espionage event with papers being transferred. The Third Man Theme was not performed but it played in my head.

I'm hoping there's a Hell to hold him accountable for all the deaths and suffering he and his admin have caused.

When I was 15 in the UK, my geography teacher told my mother I shouldn't try to go to university, rather a teacher training college, which I did. I moved to the US at 21, gained a Bachelor's and Master's, all straight As. I wanted to do a PhD but I was too busy single parenting and earning a living.

I seem to do that quite frequently. Though I then explain mispronunciations on growing up in the UK, whether it is true or not. And btw, I just gave my son a year's subscription to The Onion newspaper for Christmas. 📰

So, I learned yesterday that I am not the only 70-something with a crush on Mamdani. 😍

I think the power dynamic in the photos is all in Mamdani's favor.

And Vance?

Delicious 😂 Vance too 🤣

Just look at the power dynamic in that photo! I think the old man president may regret remaining seated. Beside it getting much harder for Trump to do anything other than sit & cover his right hand, I think he thinks it's making others pay homage to him. And his positive words re Zohran now on tape.

Also, I had expected Mamdani to both charm him and use his own skills to get Trump to this point. (Huge Zohran fan here!) It's on tape now so when Trump changes position, here are his words. Nicely done, Mr. Mayor-Elect.

I think that too. Especially when just one other person is in the frame. My first thought: Trump feels they all are paying homage to him. Then I remembered, in actuality he is an old man who isn't well cognitively and physically, and he can't stand for long & btw, still covering that right hand. 1/2

It's good to take every opportunity to make this point about Trump's threat to our democracy and make clear his authoritarian tactics. So, well done to Crow and the others to continue speak out.

"What Donald Trump wants is, he wants to use fear and intimidation to silence dissent, to silence opposition, and to silence speech," Crow said. "I'm not going to allow that to happen, because the moment we allow that to happen is the moment we lose our democracy." to.pbs.org/48dJEMx

Much of this fight against authoritarianism / fascism seems to come down to the actions of an individual. Some pass that test, so many others are failing it at the moment.
