Nature won’t be fooled by creative carbon accounting. The UNFCCC-sanctioned loophole lets wood pellet emissions vanish on paper. But not in reality. Burning forests to cut emissions? That’s not climate action. It’s biosphere destruction.

Yes, very much so.

But while wolves would fit right back in ecologically if they were reintroduced to Ireland tomorrow, I don't feel people are ready for their return.

That's why I think we should focus on lynx reintroduction: there's very little potential for conflict.
Presume you’re “pro-wolf”?

Wolves are doing fine in far more densely populated places like the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, so they would here too.

As I said, the difficulty is psychological, not ecological.
Do we have enough space for wolves? I remember reading somewhere once that we don't, but happy to be wrong. Can't remember where I read that now, though.

Connemara National Park to expand by 250 hectares after land purchase.

Welcome news in a sense, but you do have to wonder where's the point, when all our national parks are overgrazed wrecks.

Focus on removing the invasive sheep, sika, + goats first, THEN expand.

After launching online 3 weeks ago, I finally got on the road yesterday. Two landowners in west Clare are pledging their land for rewilding!

Most of Ireland's surviving 1% of natural forest looks like the image on the right, when it should be like what's on the left. The cause?

Far too many invasive, non-native sika deer + feral goats. They're killing off the last remnants of rich ecosystems that have been here for around 10,000 years.
If you want to see the huge impact that high deer numbers can have on the understorey and ground flora of woods, check out these two photos below - one taken just after the removal of deer fencing, the second taken six years later. (Source: forestrycommission.blog.gov.uk/2022/08/04/r...)

A balanced, well written account of what many think is a complex story. The basics are not.

Over 100 years ago, European Zionists simply set out to steal Palestine, killing or displacing its native people, + have been doing so ever since with huge help from Britain/the US.

Everyone should read it.

Invasive rhodo is largely a *symptom* of overgrazing, very often by other invasives: sika deer + feral goats. How so?

By stripping out most native vegetation, competition for light is removed, clearing the way for takeover.

This lethal combination is killing Ireland's last native rainforests.
