This morning’s dog walk, another autumn stunner in the #PeakDistrict despite the grey clouds and drizzle
November 4, 2025 at 2:20 PM
I think I might have become a dedicated lister 😆 friends, I need some help with #My200 bird challenge. Yesterday I reached 180 species since 1 Jan, looking at choughs in Great Orme. But will I get 20 more species by 31 Dec?

Arrived in Bangor Uni, and genuinely wondering why I have never been here before. Jaw.Officially.Dropped. The views!!! Looking forward to the talk later

This morning in the Peak District: absolutely crushing the Autumn 2025 collection 🔥

Just before leaving Bristol I had a chance to visit the excellent M-Shed, which includes the Colston statue and a reminder of the strong links between trades in #ivory #sugar & #slaves that built cities like Bristol. Ivory was a significant economic underpinning for the British Empire #WildlifeTrade

It was very engaging discussion in SPAIS in Bristol Uni today. My thanks to Ashley Dodsworth for the invite. I’ve also enjoyed the massive range of public art in Bristol ⬇️

Just spent a terrific day @wwtworldwide.bsky.social Slimbridge, meeting some of the team in the morning and taking a look around the reserve in the afternoon. Saw common cranes for the first time ❤️ I am very grateful for the hospitality.

On the train. For the 80s kids out there: Repo Man vibes 😀

We completed our exchange visit btwn UCT & Sheffield with, what else, but a trip around the Peak District National Park 😀 A perfect landscape to discuss land ownership patterns & models of National Parks - thanks so much to @ahubschle.bsky.social & Maano Ramutsindela for great conversations

This week we had a wonderful workshop with Maano Ramutsindela & @ahubschle.bsky.social this week; they respected their new research on transfrontier parks and harmscapes. It was a great way to meet old friends & new ⬇️

And a other pic of the later flowering plants - smells amazing in the evenings

We got loads of great advice from @joelashton.bsky.social. But yes, you’ve guessed it, the moles still pop up - not in the flowers, oh no - but in the last remaining patch of mown grass that serves as the path 🤣
September 6, 2025 at 10:50 AM
Then plant the wildflower seeds & plugs- but as if was the hottest & driest spring /summer on record, it needed constant attention /watering- which added to the work. It took several weeks for them to grow to full height.
September 6, 2025 at 10:45 AM
First kill the grass by placing a tarp over it - this revealed all the little tunnels dug by the resident moles. Then scarify to remove all remaining grass and topsoil
September 6, 2025 at 10:43 AM
Do #moles love your garden? I love moles, but they don’t mix well with lawns. So my (very understanding) other half @feargalc.bsky.social created a mole friendly ‘wild garden’ where molehills don’t matter- and I can tell you an absolute tonne of work went in to this stunner ⬇️

4/ The article encourages us to fully address harms to non-human animals. It builds on #justice perspectives within #GreenCriminology that emphasise #anthropocentric, #biocentric, & #ecocentric concepts of justice to expand concepts of #victimhood and #harm.

3/ We focus on the wildlife trade in Europe, especially #BrownBears, #EuropeanEels and #Songbirds. We analyse how harms are produced in the context of global #capitalism, unequal power relations and interconnected global crises.
July 24, 2025 at 7:14 AM
2/ We examine how #PoliticalEcology can benefit from greater engagement with the focus on #harms in #GreenCriminology. We need to understand how harms are produced and sustained, and what impacts they have on people and wildlife.

It’s Monday - so I ringfenced today to make a start on reading up ready for the Multispecies Mutualisms project in September. But, arrrgh, how should I begin ?! Just start I thought: Bird Therapy by @joeharkness.bsky.social while sitting in the Bird Cafe surrounded by fledgling siskins 😀

Very fortunate to spot a pair of #RingOuzel out in the peaks today. They were foraging to feed some very demanding chicks. The moorland is so dry right now it must be extra hard for them all to

Just finished this excellent book, Vanished, by @sadiahqureshi.bsky.social that shows how histories of #extinction are connected to ‘deeply disturbing ideas about race, being human, life’s worth, and imperial politics’ 🔥 Highly recommend it - it’s packed with examples that make these links clear

This is so infuriating- something I did not ask for & do not want (for so many reasons). Academia.edu - which I don’t use, has generated an AI podcast of one of my (really old!!) papers with a fake voice. The equivalent of reading the abstract & assuming it gives you all you need to know.
