There could be more delays, but Trump's 75-day extension feels like an ultimatum.

It's unlikely Trump wants to "save" TikTok as much as he wants it controlled by parties friendly to his administration.

In that sense, extending this legal limbo doesn't seem advantageous.

Congress could repeal the law, though...

But even if they did, the chances of it happening in time are slim.

And despite nobody wanting to own up to passing the law now, it *did* pass with overwhelming bipartisan support.

America...buys it?

-Trump floated the idea of a "joint venture" in which the United States government owns 50% of the app.

-It would arguably the first instance of state-owned media in the U.S. or Canada.

-Traditionally, state-owned media is a staple of authoritarians.

A consortium of investors buys it. People who have publicly thrown their hat in the ring include:

-Kevin O'Leary
-Mark Cuban (who also offered to fund an alternative)
-Mr. Beast

The price tag for TikTok's U.S. operations alone could exceed $50 billion.

A competitor buys it. The most likely options are:

-Meta (Facebook, Instagram etc.)
-Elon Musk (Owner of X)
-Google (Owner of YouTube)

All of these options would likely trigger antitrust complaints.

That said, the law still applies.

And barring a new law from Congress that overturns the old one, if 75 days pass with no new developments...

TikTok would seemingly again leave the U.S

While TikTok is back online, there are still some features and functions of the app that are down.

Probably because when you decide to shut off access to an app all of sudden as part of a political ploy, there will be unforeseen ramifications to the app's backend.
