I have, I think it’s an improvement overall, though I’m not as interested in shorthand as spelling reform. It also seems much less popular now than Shavian since it doesn‘t have Unicode support

Way to go

(I’m aware there were more people involved in the design, but clearly not enough.) Quikscript was a noble attempt by Read to design a better system but he missed his biggest chance. Androcles and the Lion was already published and Shaw’s will was executed

This basically happened to Sh*vian. Read designed the letters and made some good decisions in several dimensions, but he only had one opportunity to learn the system and he learned it too well. MacCarthy didn’t even have to learn to write the letters when he typeset Androcles and the Lion

They’re a strong inspiration. More directly, Korean letters are too

Amazingly Enough

You could easily create a font that supports Quikscript using the Shavian block but I don’t want to

How are they going to charge $5.50 for Grain Belt

Aside from the interjection “ew” the two sounds are in complementary distribution, so I don’t think I will. But I could! If I did I would have to decide whether to spell it iu or eu (because there’s a spot open in the vowel table)

There are several aspects of the design of the printed letters that seem hostile to natural handwriting. You can’t embellish with hooks or tails, you can’t straighten vertical lines with stems, and letters start and end from both sides at all heights

I may have spoken too soon on this. This was an absolute first impression, the only example of Shavian I had seen then was from the default font at shavian.info. I do believe Kingsley Read didn’t deeply consider casual writing, but I’d be surprised if the community hadn’t adapted and made do

I understand that, but it’s still an odd choice. What feels particularly wrong to me (an American and someone new to Shavian) is that in both the stressed and unstressed cases I would analyze this letter as spanning two syllables
