I get it. But "_most reliable_" is doing a lot of work here, since it's not very reliable. If people blindly follow this indicator, they'll be drowning in false positives. I'm not going to be scared off of using em-dashes, regardless of whether they are the "most reliable" of unreliable indicators.

...and I know your point is that LLM are ruining the em-dash for real people. I just am so tired of this crap.
January 17, 2026 at 8:32 PM
I'm sorry, but em-dashes are extremely useful. I have never used an LLM for anything, and don't plan to ever do so. And I will not stop using a useful tool just because it's being touted as indicative of LLM output. Seriously, can everyone stop putting this forward as an "AI" tell? I hate it.

Great song! I recommend transitioning at some point to another earworm-worthy, sun-related rock song: "Automatic Sun" from The Warning, a trio of talented sisters from Monterrey, Mexico: youtu.be/GZMHak0jI9M?...

Very cute! But I think they might be prairie dogs.

Steve's thoughts seem similar to Mike's.

My understanding of his interpretation is that the likely alternative was the full court issuing an administrative stay *without a tight timeline,* then waiting for some indeterminate (by likely much longer) amount of time before deciding on the merits. So she's trying to minimize the delay / harm.

Trying to figure out what #SCOTUS just did with #SNAP, and why Justice Jackson temporarily froze the district court's ruling?

Via "One First," me on what's going on—and why I think Jackson's move was savvy, notwithstanding the awful circumstances that forced it:

Ooops! Just realized you were referring to the bills he hasn't taken any action on. Sorry for misinterpreting! (However, perhaps I'll leave my comment in case others aren't aware of the CA Legislature's stand on overriding vetoes.)
October 7, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Unless the California Legislature seriously departs from decades of past practice, they won't override his veto. I find it insane, but they haven't overridden a veto since 1979: calmatters.org/politics/202...
Legislators could override nearly every Newsom veto. Why don’t they?
Most bills Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed passed the Legislature with enough votes for an override. The Legislature hasn't tried since 1979.

Hmm…I’ve never seen a Nevadan dressed anything like that (granted, I’ve never lived in southern Nevada, so can’t speak to what they wear there).

I’m a fan of The Warning, and only heard about Dead Poet Society through them, and have really enjoyed DPS’s music :)

In what spare time are law students supposed to build up their hand and finger endurance to be able to handwrite 3-hour essay-based exams? Because that's how long a single law school exam generally is at the law schools I'm familiar with.
