This issue is set up for the rest of the arc. Frank and Micro face to face, but Frank appearing helpless in custody. The agents working with Micro all get to experience Frank Castle, and react differently to seeing the Punisher in person, the one common element being the intensity of Frank Castle.

A lot of world building going on, not of supporting characters but of the tone and concepts the series will be about. Side characters can be comedic and veer into the familiar tone of an Ennis comic, but Frank Castle remains serious, a monster hunting down his prey without a second thought.

When Ennis isn’t writing crude jokes and adolescent humor (there is a little of that here) he can be one of the best writers in comics. And The Punisher may be his masterpiece. Frank Castle is an obsessed killing machine, taking his justice out on the mobsters because they are the bad guys.

Booster’s fall from grace and maybe redemption is a good hook for the issue. Supernova’s identity remains a mystery, but at this point it doesn’t matter because anyone could be Booster’s foil. The Renee plot does get a little icky, but resolves before it can get there.

The Renee story is a bit weak as it’s mostly travel, and the time in Kahndaq is mostly walking. The Magnus story is better and the Steel bit feels superfluous, almost like they had a cover and needed to throw him in the book.

The issues have gotten very streamlined down to following one major story and a side story. Not being as all over the place really helps the stories focused on and the pace of the issue.

Spider-Man 2099 gets nearly killed and falls into the downtown. Ground level New York City. There he is helped by a doctor before being snatched by Vulture 2099.

World building of things that aren’t what we’ve already seen. Those downtown are the downtrodden.

They make fun of wanting Ninja Turtles in the second issue. It’s a comic based on a kid’s cartoon. Hey, one is named Vinny.

Mostly a recap of Batman’s origins and events like having the Robins. The 0 issues were all resets following Zero Hour.

Mark and William visit a college campus. Issue 7 is the first twist, setting up the Guardians of the Globe being gathered and being introduced to each of them. And then they all are killed and we get the shock ending of it being Omni-Man. The next issue is the fallout with the funerals.

Week eleven is mostly Renee and Charlie and meeting Batwoman. Week 12 is Black Adam giving the power of Isis to Adrianna. We also get Ralph catching up to Cassie after learning a dress of Sue’s was stolen from his storage unit, and a few other little catch ups.

Jean Grey leaves the X-Men to go to college. Roy Thomas continues to call Iceman “Bobby Blake.” The villain is a fired professor who built a ray gun that would make bugs grow huge. He is beaten by the X-Men and Xavier dressed as a hermit.
