Democrats are fanning out to hold town halls in red districts & states, a duty forsaken by Republicans.

The goal is to further discredit an unhinged "mad king," turn up the heat on GOP lawmakers, and build the resistance. 2/2

Not only in the courts, but in the public square Democrats are finding their footing against Trump and his attempts to hollow out our govt.

Trump identifies with authoritarian leaders, esp Putin. He shares their worldview and aspires to be one of them. For such authoritarians—as Ben-Ghiat points out—democracies are the problem. Trump wants to remake the US into an authoritarian regime, so it won't be a problem, and he can join the club.

Trump described Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as “genius” and “savvy.” He now wants to emulate Putin's imperialist agenda.
Trump’s schemes for world domination include the invasion and annexation of Canada. This is not a drill. This is not a joke.

This is an evil, megalomaniacal plot.

Trump’s insistence that Canada is not a real country is eerily similar to Vladimir Putin’s arguments in the run-up to his invasion…

I’ve not always been a Bernie fan, but I feel he’s pointing Democrats in the right direction, now. And they’re beginning to follow his lead, with plans for Democratic town halls in all 50 states, starting with red ones.
What Sanders has been doing recently is highly instructive—and Democrats don’t need to be die-hard enthusiasts of his particular policy portfolio to extract the key lesson and act on it: Identify the victims of Trumpism, give them a voice, and get their stories told.
The Big Lesson From Bernie Sanders’s Gangbusters Anti-Oligarchy Tour
The thousands of victims of Trumpism are out there. Democrats just need to find them—and be their champion.

Democratic rank-and-file want performative politics to provide them a much-needed catharsis. But one thing is clear to me. The economy is tanking, and voters are pinning it on Trump. A government shutdown facilitated by the Democrats would muddle the one issue that can pull Trump down.

Must watch: GOP Senator Roger Marshall stands up and flees his own town hall meeting today after being asked why Republicans think it’s acceptable for DOGE to be firing Veterans.

This is a very rural, very conservative town.

Many who voted for Trump were not committed MAGA voters. They did not vote for dismantling the govt, nor taking over the Gaza Strip. Many of them are now expressing remorse. They must be brought into a broad coalition to preserve our democracy. 1/2

Repubs propose $4.5 trillion in tax cuts that go mainly to wealthy, paid by $1.5 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, education and other programs that help average Americans. Dems are flailing; they can’t see beyond beltway. Why not a national media campaign denouncing this cynical budget proposal?

For years, I’ve argued that Trump is a cult leader. If he loses credibility, the cult fever will break, and his followers drift away. But readers replied, “MAGA base will never change.” Well, some are now changing, expressing remorse for supporting Trump. Maybe there’s hope for democracy after all.

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do.

Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.
Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

Dems have long struggled with messaging. Painting Trump as enemy of working class and democracy has fallen on deaf ears. But something fundamental has changed. Voters can now see for themselves what Trump cares about. And Musk has become the icon for his self-aggrandizement. tinyurl.com/5feaxwmm

When food and gas prices spike, when vaccines are no longer available, or special ed is dropped at school, voters will become angry and disillusioned. Party labels will become less important. Democrats must make sure voters know who is responsible, starting now with constituent town halls.

Voter anger is white hot and growing. Democrats must channel that anger toward Trump, as the best way to fight his rolling coup. Constituent town halls are a start. Among party leaders, that’s the emerging consensus. wapo.st/42OQfvE

Spontaneous demonstrations all over the country, calls to Congress numbering in thousands per minute, all expose white hot anger among many voters—many, but not all. The rest will have to experience firsthand what loss of government services means before they, too, take to streets.
