I have instant like of the new Superman movie. It could be lackluster, but the fact that Gunn acknowledges the inherent politicalness of Superman's story makes it a 10/10 for me.

We validate our procedure using the US Supreme Court, where a consistent measure has existed for decades, and show that opinion language has a clear ideological component that is measurable. As you can see, the measures match up fairly well. First time I've gotten an R^2 in the 90s!

Past couple of semesters as Chair I've dealt with a lot of folks (good meaning or not) prioritizing things that really don't matter and not fighting hard enough for the things that do. So I got this to hang in my office behind me. Gustave Dore's sketch of Don Quixote "tilting at the windmill"

Roberts makes it short & sweet that he (& the majority) agreed with the district court judge in re: USAID contract payments. But what's really fascinating is the opening line of Alito's dissent. As a measure of ideology, this swings HARD arguing for unilateral purse-string control for the executive.

Best undergraduate presentation at @spsanews.bsky.social #SPSA2025. But maybe I'm biased. Libby did an amazing job and very happy to report all of her interactions with folks have her seriously considering a PhD. Scoop her up now!

I'm a big film lover, but with a 2 year old catching a lot of movies is tricky. But these were definitely some of my favorite and top 5 I got to catch in 2024

I got back into reading for fun more in 2024. Already have a laundry list of new ones for 2025 but here are my top 5 reads of last year in no particular order

We found that, yes, judges make networks, and these networks seem to follow familiar patterns of professionalism we would expect from 'collegial courts.'

The third thing, and this IS a joke..is that I am sad to announce I am retiring this folder of pictures. It will be shelved along with my folder of "Weird pics of Paul Ryan", "John Boehner tries to hold in a fart", "Weird Uncle Harry Reid," and of course "Evil Villain Trump"
