42.- Mega Man & Bass
I'm sorry to say this, but this is one of the worst games I've played in my gaming career. Here's the problem, when the game is good? It's really freakin good, makes me happy to see the Mega Man 8 artstyle in the SNES, there's some legit fun... And then all that little bit of fun gets squandered by BS, as someone who's played hard games in the past, I'll say it, there's no real challenge here, instead there's cheap BS you have to deal with until you win. Getting shot mid-jump so I fall to my death, insta death spikes, cheap shots, vanishing blocks platforming, bosses with chaotic patterns, it's like the game lets you have a bit of fun before it punishes you for it. It turns an otherwise fun game into a miserable experience, I should be feeling like I could replay this one day, instead I'm just glad I got it over with, that's not good.

41.- Mega Man 7
I have mixed feelings on this one, while I appreciate the evolution in the artstyle and the gameplay having some good moments... I don't think I like the claustrophobic level design or how cheap some bits of the game get when it comes to insta-kills, I hope whoever programmed invisible platforms steps on a lego. What also makes me feel mixed on it is how stiff Mega Man feels to control compared to the NES games, there's a slight hint of jank where I can miss a jump by a pixel and either have to repeat or just plummet to my death. And that's made worse when even the trusty Rush Coil also feels nerfed... Despite those probloems, I had fun, when it's good, it's great! When it's bad... It's painful... Not the greatest entry, but not the worst either!

40.- Mega Man 6
Of the NES era Mega Man, I'd say this one has my favorite controls and level design, also probably the fairest in terms of difficulty (or maybe I got a bit good at these since I played them back to back, lol) Either way, now I am fully appreciating this era of Mega Man, but I am glad I'm playing them now as a more patient adult, kid me would not have enjoyed this as much if he tried to push forward, lol.

39.- Mega Man 5
If I were to rank the Mega Man games so far, 4 would be top, 5? Comes close second! I don't know if it's because I'm playing them back to back, but 5 felt the easiest in the saga so far, didn't die too much, getting all the letters to unlock Beat was a cakewalk, and all the bosses felt great to fight! Barely anything in the way of cheap deaths, at least until the Wily UFO... That sucked, almost soured me on the game, but other than that? I love how different they did things! I also have a soft spot for this one because it turns out I have loose memories of playing this when I was a little kid! I never managed to beat it, lol, but it all came back to me as I played this! I have avenged kid me!

38.- Mega Man 4
If 3 would be at the bottom of my ranking list for Classic Mega Man, 4 would be right at the top so far! Almost everything I disliked from 3 was corrected, no Doc Robot stages thank goodness... I loved the stages, the robot masters, and again it feels nice how every game spices up how Dr Wily tries to do his evil plans! Dr. Cossack was fun, I wish he was in more games, but alas, all in all this one made me the happiest and I'm totally gonna play the fan remake of it (in the style of the Wily Wars remakes!). My appreciation for these games is starting to grow as I complete them!

37.- Mega Man 3
Probably gonna upset some veteran gamers but... Sadly this is my least favourite in the series so far. It's got better level design compared to the previous 2 and I appreciate Protoman as a recurring rival, but while facing all 8 Robot Masters was nice. Everything fell apart for me with the Doc Robot stages. I love the concept of an evil robot using data from past bosses to power himself, but I hate how cheap these fights were, even with the rewind the Legacy Collection included. It made the much easier Wily stages feel almost like an apology for stretching the game so much wtih repeat stages, this is the game I'd replay the least, those fights soured me hard on it.

36.- Mega Man 2
Immediately fell in love with how much it improved compared to the first game, it was still fairly challenging, and it still relied a bit much on killing me via knockbacks... But despite that, this was fun to play! It feels funny how much more lighthearted this is compared to the X series, and I like how right away Dr Wily is trying different tricks. At this point still feeling slower and simplistic compared to the MMX games, but I'm starting to appreciate these a bit more!

So, Magic Jester in the game doesn't really do too much, but then upon seeing gameplay of the laser bhean, I knew I had to do one where he's charging the attack! Even with the pixel sprites, I like how intense Spark looks when fighting, so I was hoping to reflect that here! I've been mostly using screenshots from the game itself to work out the backgrounds, and it's been quite the learning experience! Since the game doesn't have much art of the power ups I've been improvising a lot of the details and, it's made making these even more fun, focusing on my own artstyle instead of adapting official ones has been liberating, specially for this project! Just two more Jester forms to make, and I'll be done with the first game's power ups! But it's not the end of my Jester collection! I plan to do something fun with the second and third game! I hope y'all like this!

35.- Megaman (Classic)
I gotta say, I had never played the Classic Megaman saga before, other than trying it out years ago and Megaman 8 back in the PS1 days, so I decided to give it a go at last sine I got the first Legacy Collection! Sadly... It's mostly because I grew up with Megaman X, I felt weird playing the original, the simplicity is nice, but the early difficulty and level design felt... Slower compared to where I came from before. Some cheap enemy placement aside, this one was neat! I keep hearing it gets better from the second game onwards, so... This is gonna be a fun new retro journey for me!

34.- Zero Protocol
I first played this game during the nextfest and fell in love with the unique spin it did to the classic survival horror formula! This is essentially an escape room! You gotta gather clues, codes, and keys in order to make your way to the next floor, and avoid dying or going insane in the process! Aside from some annoying spider enemies, I had a grand old time completing this game and uncovering the mystery behind why everything went wrong!

Ethos wanted their OC, Anthony to be dancing and chillin while listening to some music on his phone. This was specially fun to make because for the first time I drew headphones for mobian ears, at the top of the head, it's amazing how much that throws you off at first, but I was happy to see it worked out! The dancing pose was also fun to pull off, I wanted to make sure it's clear he's jamming it out so I went with this! I'd say I'm quite happy with the results! Once again, thanks for commissioning me!

Way back in 2019-2020 I drew my main doggo Zeta wearing a cheerleader outfit, I can't remember why, but it was likely a joke we were doing on a discord server. The original... Looked quite janky, so I thought it'd be fun to check how much I've progressed by remaking it! I wanted to be sure I got a better grasp on anatomy, posing, perspective, even proportions, and I must say... I'm happy with the progress so far! One bad habit I've had in 2019-2020 was that I kept making the heads disproportionately big compared to the bodies. At the time I was also trying to emulate the 3D effect of the glasses being over my doggo's eyes much like they do in Sonic Forces, but eventually dropped that, same with the yellow modules on the strap, came to realize it was a bit overdesigned. Looking at this closely, you can tell I was cutting a lot of corners with the arms, and... For a sonic fan character, the feet and hands were just a bit too small, lol. I still love this piece, he looks so happy, ofc I had to remake it! It's amazing what 5-6 years of experience can do!

I gotta say, I'm having the time of my life working on this little fanart project, Spark reflects a ton of personality with each form! Case in point: The Edgy Jester! Since some of the game levels involve a bit of dynamic lighting, and the Edgy Jester form already looks and moves like a ninja, I thought it'd be cool to put Spark in a dark scene, make it look like he's infiltrating and is about to attack! Gave me a neat excuse to practice particle effects and ambience lights, I also love how his expression changes depending on the power up, true to his TV host lore, he really takes in the persona of the costume he wears! I am quite happy with how this is turning out!

Recently I got my hands on a bunch of pixel brushes for SAI and I thought, why not go all the way? I want to learn to do detailed pixel art shading like some of the best artists can do, so I'm gonna be doing a bunch of practice pieces to hone my skills! The first subject this time is Ztick! He's a Sonic Prime OC who works as bodyguard for Dr. Don't alongside the rest of the guard dogs, since he's as much of a gamer as his boss, I thought he'd be perfect for pixel art! I'd say so far I'm happy with the results! But remember, I'm doing this as art study, I'm aiming to make them better and better as I complete them! I hope y'all like it!

As these power ups continue to show Spark doing different combat oriented things, I came to realize I really needed to start spicing up the poses! His crossbow in the game is so large that it covers most of his sprite, so for the sake of this pic, I shrunk it down just a teeny tiny bit, make it fit with the pose! I wanted Spark to look like either he just dodged an enemy attack or that he saw a threat and went into aiming position, and ofc with the serious fight face! Since this was another case where the main sprite covers too many details, I thought it'd be fun to get a bit more creative, namely with the scarf, since the Archer Jester form gives him a very Robin hood-ish look, feather included! The stages in the game continue to be a fantastic gold mine for backgrounds, this one was a ton of fun! I'd say so far taking up this project has been one of the more fun artistic decisions I made, I hope y'all are enjoying it as much as I am in making them!

Simple sketches, they will be done as clean as possible. Flat color, it will include minor details like eye shading or gradient color background. Shaded, usually done with cell shaded style, includes smaller details like shiny effects on stuff like metals. Includes ambience light in case of wanting a background! Detailed shading: A lot more elaborate, usually including 3-5 layers of shade, includes ambience lights in the case of backgrounds.

So I made this on a traditional sketchbook about 2 years ago, you can tell because I have this thing where I accidentally draw heads bigger than they need to be, lol. I was taking random poses as inspiration when I came across this one and thought Zee would look cute in it, I don't draw my OCs being happy too often so hey! Good vibes! Most pixelart tutorials say to use a small canvas, but I can't help feeling I could get some fun results if I used the pixel brush on a more regular sized canvas, it's all a matter of experimenting, and I'd say this one turned out great! I'll see if I can do more elaborate pixel shading as I keep experimenting!

33.- Metroid Fusion
I think of the Metroid 2D quartet, I feel this one was the most survival horror adjacent, I knew of the X parasites and SA-X, but I did not expect Samus' basic power suit sprite to be this legit scary! I do not trust that timer, I got stuck in a few places, I died plenty to the bosses, I think Fusion has some of the more unforgiving bosses if you try to brute force them, but once I figured them out, they were a ton of fun! All in all, I think the Metroid series is fantastic, I really wish I had played it sooner, I might play Dread one day, but until then, I'm happy I got an awesome quartet of games to revisit every now and then!

I was hesitant to give pixel art a go, cuz while SAI does have a binary pen that lets you make pixel art, there's also the problem of not having a binary eraser. A quick google search fixed the problem almost inmediatley, lol, now I got my own custom pixel erase and... I'd say for a first pixel art drawing, it turned out pretty neat! I'm still a ways to go, but this is a really good first start! I might make even more in the future!

32.- Super Metroid
I was warned beforehand this game was much floatier and had a run button compared to Zero Mission and AM2R, so I picked a romhack that tweaks things a bit and lets me playing a bit closer to Zero Mission! Floatiness was still there, and I missed being able to grab ledges, but once I got accustomed to the controls and the gameplay it was all smooth sailing! Not sure what can I say about this game that hasn't been said before, I love it, it feels amazing coming into this franchise having played the entire genre they spawned! Also, I think it needs to be said, while I do plan to replay this whole 2D saga in the future, don't expect me to do 100% completion, I hate shining spark puzzles, I am terrible at pulling them off, lol. Regardless... I'm so happy I'm experiencing this legendary franchise at last! Now onto Fusion!

I don't think there's much to say about this one, that it's 100% fanmade is mindblowing, I loved coming into it after having experienced Zero Mission because I felt right at home! Even if there's hardly any textual story, I am loving how Samus' journey is coming along, specially since everything in the saga gets defined from this point onwards. This whole saga I feel I'm gonna replay from time to time!

He's been developing his own little space adventure with a whole alien species, and I was asked to draw a female Gh'endeshi! (That's the name of the species) From the lore I was given, their clothing reflect their social status, so I thought it'd look cool to give her a rather smug noblewoman pose, and a stare that just says you're beneath her, lol. In one of the stages, Spark goes through an area that includes train tracks, meaning every now and then a train will speed by, potentially dealing damage to Spark and enemies alike if you don't get out of the way. So I thought, why not make a more action-ish scene where Knight Jester Spark is on top of the train about to fight? It's seriously sad how little fanart there is of this game trilogy, I ended up improvising what little detais I noticed on sprites and backgrounds from gameplay screenshots. Tho it came with the fun side effect of letting me improvise and adapt it to my artstyle! It's still crazy there are more power ups left, and you can bet I'm gonna make fanart of them! I want to contribute in giving Spark some much needed attention!
