All the usual women’s roles, most of which I actually like. Love a good chat and a nice meal. Do a bit of writing and some bus driver training. 2024 was my last season doing B&B after 38 years! Going to do large-group (up to 12) self-catering house in ‘25.

Supportive posts

There was even an apology posted by a cyclist who’d gotten a bit agitated with someone.

I’m not complaining, but I am wondering how long this can possibly last.

I hope we surprise ourselves.

Have a listen to my son Michael and his mate Cian, (The Achill Lads). Their new single, ‘The Big Drum’s Beating’, is about St Patrick’s Day in Achill. It’s on all the music services and we’ve just heard they’re No.1 on iTunes!

Just finished series 4 of Slow Horses, and I loved it. Filmmakers use a colour palette in set design and colour grading to give the film an overall theme. Once you notice it you can’t miss it. I’ll just say TEAL is a very common TV design palette, and they use it liberally. 👀

For Americans, having to use paper straws is what makes them realise how unfair some of the measures to reduce carbon emissions are to the common man. In Ireland, it’s nearly half the population living without heat, power, water or communications after severe winds.

When we renovated our old cottage in 1986/7, we ran the power line underground from the pole on the road to our ESB meter box. It has never failed in the 39 years since then. Every other line around us has let us down at one time or another, but not that one. Bury it @esbnetworks.bsky.social

Anyone else having trouble checking or reporting a fault on ESB Power Check? Im sure it’s inundated, but I haven’t been able to get past ‘I’m a human, not a robot’ since Friday morning.

We’re well used to power cuts, but I’ve noticed in the past couple of years they’re always accompanied by a loss of phone networks. No comms available to report outages, dangerous road conditions, even to contact family to let them know we’re ok. Miserable in the dark, but ok. Why is this happening?

It’s so nice to be in a place where nobody’s toes are being pinched. It is a proper epidemic in the other place!

Trump, Musk and their cohorts think they are performing a factory reset on US society, after which it will be a utopia for WASPS. I hope they set some system restore points before they started.

RIP Garth Hudson of The Band. This song won’t be the same when the lyric is changed to go “down the Mississippi to the Gulf of America.”
Garth Hudson: 11 Essential Songs (Gift Article)
The last surviving original member of the Band died on Tuesday. He was a master on keys and saxophones who could conjure a panoply of scenes and eras.

Spare a thought for the poor rural Independent TD, who has to back the Govt in something particularly abhorrent to his constituents. He needs a way to let them know he’ll be voting for it under duress.
A controversial move to allow Independent TDs supporting the Government to speak from the opposition benches will proceed tomorrow but only on a temporary basis

This is the preacher who praised Trump (and the Lord) at yesterday’s inauguration. Seems he found salvation through Crypto. Land of opportunity indeed. I didn’t follow him back. I blocked, then unblocked to see if I’d imagined it. And he came straight into my DMs. I must need to change my settings.

There’s an awful lot of religion involved in this inauguration ceremony, considering the Constitution insists on the separation of Church and State. The oath is set out in the Constitution. “So help me God” is not part of it.

There are a lot of people posting this photo as President Biden’s last day in office. I didn’t think it was the cut of his gib, so I searched the image. It’s Lyndon B Johnson on his last day.
