Desk copies have arrived for next term's George Eliot seminar. Very exciting! My selections were shaped by my having assigned both Adam Bede and Middlemarch in other courses some of the students will already have taken. And we are also going to read "Janet's Repentance."

I started Vol 2 of On the Calculation of Volume and it addresses exactly the aspect of it that is making me annoyed with it: the stopped time premise doesn't make sense as it is playing out. The details or logistics seem too arbitrary. I try not to care but it is too distracting.

Nobody really understands the King's-Dal relationship so predictably the resumption of King's classes starting tomorrow has caused confusion despite the pretty clear explanation provided by King's. 😏
