The USS Guadalcanal and task force were short on fuel and we’re planning to head to a African port to refuel; but if they’ve done that, then everybody would’ve known the US Navy had a captured submarine. A tugboat and an oiler were sent to meet with the task group so they could all get to Bermuda.

Painted on the sea facing side of the u-boat pen dock was written (in German) “U-505’s Hunting ground”

It wasn’t until the 505’s log book was reviewed much later that this incident was seen and forwarded to the British whose only info was a search plane that failed to return. Provided closure to a tragic event.

Doesn’t look good for them.

But also looking at the map, to think that in March 1945 multiple crossings of the Rhine River will be made and the western Allied forces will get to the Elb River by the end of April.

Any indication as to which compound?
North compound was where the Great Escape took place.
East compound was where the “vaulting horse” escape took place.

In NH there’s Pease ANGB.
Also in NH…errrr.umm…Maine.. the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard.
