I spoke with a hurricane modeler who was just fired from the branch of NOAA that keeps weather models running. He got a form letter like hundreds of others telling him he was losing his job in an hour. This bodes very poorly for American forecasting. Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

Does anyone here do bucket lists? I've been neglecting mine, and I'm thinking it's time to dump the bucket out and take a look at all of the slips of ideas I've dropped into it over time. Then I'll pick out the best, transfer the rest to flash paper and light a match. Poof!
