I am old and at the end of my days. I am not afraid of death. I would give my life in an instant to save a child. I sit here n Australia feeling helpless that children are being slaughtered in the Middle East. This is a religious war. If only there were no religion.

Although unsurprising, the referendum result has left me more ashamed of Australia than I have ever been. We have rejected a humble invitation from our first nations. A simple request to seek and listen to advice. A simple acknowledgement in our founding document. /1
