Very proud of the work of @rodrimartinr.bsky.social, Sara Rodríguez Acebes and the rest of the team. This has been a long effort with many people involved over the years. We have now a better understanding on how VCP/p97 connects priming during DNA replication and the replication stress response.
The study, led by @emlecona.bsky.social (CBM), is published in @natcomms.nature.com, with Sara Rodríguez Acebes (CNIO) and @rodrimartinr.bsky.social (CBM) as first authors, and in collaboration with Juan Mendez' group (CNIO).
DNA polymerase α/primase extraction from chromatin by VCP/p97 restricts ATR activation during unperturbed DNA replication - Nature Communications
The replication stress response ensures genomic stability throughout DNA duplication. Here, the authors show that VCP/p97 extracts the DNA polymerase α/Primase complex from chromatin, preventing excessive priming in the lagging strand and reducing the activation of the replication stress response.
