No discussion of sexual orientation in the presence of a huge-uncovered-tits Vtuber.
No discussion of "gender" or politics when, you know, legislation against LGBT+ people is one of the main thrusts of The Current US Administration.

I don't follow Zen, but I did, briefly. The blanket chat rule speaks plenty to the sort of wilful ignorance of what people are talking about, when they talk about it, and how.

If she lost the hat too, the design would still be referential, as would the WW2-esque outfits of her little "army". But maybe it would be consciously de-badged enough that it would demonstrate a conscious attempt to minimize the Nazi Association, which is, itself, a (positive) political statement.

The cultural and aesthetic association with evil comes from the Nazis. That's *why* her artist chose those design elements, regardless of how the artist feels about Nazism. She was informed enough (not very much, lol) to have the most direct element removed (the actual armband).

But edginess gets its impact from its real world associations. Black, red, and white is the colour scheme of the Nazi party. Asymmetrical red presence is referential to Nazi armbands. Her hat is shaped like many command hats of the era, but black is part of the Nazi variant of that design.

They get mad when people take issue with it because it makes them uncomfortable back. They want an environment where these accusations are aggressively rebuked, because that's the opposite environment of one where they have to worry about being edgy.

This is a general pattern of rhetoric that is, at best, under-informed in a poisonous way. Edgy people who don't know anything about the world want to use vaguely de-badged versions of historical evil without anyone being upset about it.

Not that I care much about Samus, but people think "bounty hunting" is badass when it's like. Just being a freelance cop.

Also hard to really understand what "bounty hunting" she's doing most of the time. Is she under contract to someone? Is someone paying her to lose all her items repeatedly?

Christians have already waited 2000 years for Jesus to come back. They'll wait another 2000 to see how removing all Muslims from Palestine changes things.

Sometimes designers are just bad at designing. Sometimes players are also designers. Sometimes a designer is wrong about what their game does - this is called "emergent gameplay".

Nobody is (or should be) obligated to listen to their players, but they are not categorically wrong about game design.
