Disabled and just trying to keep my head above water. Raised up by NYC queer community, now mostly homebound in western mass.
Trying to help 80 year old relative get new COVID shot in SC. Trump-allied supermarket claims over 65 still needs a prescription.

Publix pharmacist claims it’s a new CDC rule. I say no, it is approved for over 65. She says yes, but you need Rx. I push, “is this a SC thing or CDC” She says … 1/x

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

When it says “AI”, it usually just means “automated”. One million find-and-replace operations? That’s not intelligence; that’s automation. Less impressive and less scary.

They can cut social programs without redistributing it to the rich. They can redistribute money to the rich without cutting social programs.

It's about values.

Their talk about balancing the budget is to distract us.

The only debt crisis is the crisis of medical and credit card debt wrought from corporate greed and deregulation. There is no government debt crisis.

Ask yourself, “can I print money?”

Now ask it about the State

If we fall into the trap of “yes the government needs to cut spending but”, we have already lost. Their premise is flat-out wrong. Taxes don’t fund spending at the federal level. The idea of “taxpayer money” is Regan-era propaganda and we need to obliterate that notion. No more hand-wringing!

It is not the government’s job to save money. Government’s only job is to spend money.

Money does not exist until the Federal government spends it.

Anyone who tells you the government needs to save money is trying to save all the money for themselves.

Today, we at Google have a new product: what if you could could ask an app a question? Oh, we do that already? Well, what if we were a little bit worse at it? What if we also sometimes gave you egregiously wrong information? And what if it cost a billion dollars? Still not interested? It's mandatory

Just saw someone say “block anyone without any posts” and that’s reasonable enough but I’m a real person so I’m posting something.
