this one is sending me😭 man if only the platforms I use could get my books literally EVERYWHERE, but they just WONT and i'm to blame? like cmon. you really think we wouldn't want to be able to sell in every single country if we could? i know i would. but sometimes the ways to do it just do not exist
a comment in a reddit thread that says: "Because from what I have seen, they only wanna cater to US, UK & Australian market. Have you ever seen them (authors/publishers) mention any other country specifically? Ever tried to make special editions for them? It’s just how they treat us. And honestly, I try to buy and used KU as much as possible but with how they don’t give a fuck attitude, and pricing they put. I’m just done. 🫤"

Jesus was a lich. A lich is created when a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his soul to his animated corpse and thereby achieves immortality. Liches are depicted as being clearly cadaverous, their bodies still bearing the wounds they received before their death. Liches often have the power of necromancy, which allows them to bring the dead back to life.

Despite this, Amalia didn’t have enough courage to step forward. She wasn’t sure what to say after so long a time – an apology seemed presumptuous and unnecessary in equal measure, and pretending nothing had changed was impossible. She, however, could not turn away and head back to the manor empty-handed. The weight of the money in her pocket seemed to increase. Syldir had given her an excuse to be out, regardless of whether it was his intention or not. The Young Master’s health took priority before anything else, and the Mistress would forgive her for leaving, or staying out, if it was for the sake of Vilken’s medicine. If she backed out now, though, both she and Syldir would get in a lot of trouble. Gritting her teeth, she looked up at the stormy sky, then turned to face the door. It took only a few moments for Tauva to open; there was a wooden ladle in her hand. “Hello, Mother,” Amalia let out, though her throat was clenched so much she was nigh unable to speak.

She began walking, and the sounds returned with greater intensity, yet all the more distant and nigh impossible to grasp. She tried to listen for the creaking and moaning, to follow this cry of a broken harp-string, haunting like winter’s winds – until she realised the sound was not reaching her ears. The fissures in the deep lit up every time she moved, flashing like lightning, sending thunder straight into her brain.

Amalia stepped closer. The candle flickered, dimming in her presence. The Mistress stifled a scream and pressed her back against the headrest, any remaining colour draining from her cheeks. “What do you want with me?” she whimpered, and as Amalia came nearer, she covered her eyes. Amalia paused. The woman before her was nothing like the Mistress she once knew; her arrogance and pride were in pieces, shards of an ego so fragile when facing something beyond her comprehension, her iciness shattered into dust, leaving behind an ordinary human, naked and vulnerable before the unknown. Amalia almost pitied her; the primal horror written in the Mistress’ face, its contortion now hidden behind a pair of quivering hands, disarmed the dread Amalia herself felt moments ago. She leaned in. “Do you not recognise me, Mistress?” she spoke in a soft tone. “Even though you hated me so? Even though I died by your hand?”

Upon reaching the centre of the trunk, she discovered a narrow winding staircase leading up. The scent from earlier came out again, only for a moment, and she hesitated. It was too faint for her to put a finger on it, but she was now certain she had smelled it before, and that did not make any sense whatsoever. She started climbing the stairs, slowly and with caution. The stairwell was dim, illuminated with the same orbs she saw at the ground level. They were much smaller and more abundant, strewn about the sides like stars. When she emerged on the upper floor, she paused. There were windows on this level, allowing light from the outside to reach through from all sides – and the area was for the most part just a large open space. She saw planters with glass domes along the walls, with flora reaching out to the light coming from above, and many of the glass tubes leading in from below and connecting to the planters. The herbs growing in the room were odd, the likes of which she’d never seen, and at a glance they were not of this sparkling world.

There was the rustling of paper as the Mistress ripped an envelope open in haste. The other letters fluttered to the floor at her feet. Amalia moved to pick them up, and she put them onto the desk in a neat stack. The Mistress paid her no mind. Her eyes, widened in surprise, were darting across the black lines on white paper, and if Amalia didn’t know any better, she would have thought she noticed a faint blush staining the Mistress’ pallor. “Amalia,” the Mistress said after a long pause, setting the letter down. “I do not recall giving you permission to touch my correspondence.” “Mistress, I—” “Silence.” Slap. Amalia staggered backwards and raised her trembling fingers to her burning cheek, only just holding in a whimper. The Mistress used the back of her hand, weighted down with jewellery, and she did not hold back. “Listen well,” she hissed. “My husband is returning today, so you’d better not show your face. If I see but a hair from your head while he’s here, I will have you flogged. Is that understood?”

It was unclear whether the waters parted or the land rose above them. Amalia watched in fascination as their group reached the opposite shore of the Perpetua. She was prepared to protest when they were about to enter the shallow water; the agonised creaks of the Boundary straining under an invisible force had yet to leave her mind, and she did not want to experience them again – but as the Chief Custodian stepped forth, his feet met with firm land as the hiss of retreating water or approaching sand swirled around them. The sand was dry and undisturbed, shifting beneath their soles as they moved forward. The outline of the Perpetua’s shore melted into the omnipresent vapour, and soon, Amalia lost all sense of direction. “Where are you taking me?” “We need to talk to the Eldest,” the Chief Custodian glanced over his shoulder. “We cannot reach the Chief Botanist at the moment, and when that happens, the Eldest is the only one who’s certain to know of his whereabouts. It’ll be good to make her aware of you, too. You’re an anomaly, and if she deems you dangerous, your fate will be in her hands, not Vran’s.”
