She/her, mom of 3, navy vet, math nerd, always learning. Give me all the book recommendations; my to-read list isn't long enough.

Never been good at these intros, but here goes: I like to study and learn and try new things. I like reading and poetry and writing. Knitting is my jam and jam is also my jam (the making and the eating of). My husband is the better cook and is gracious enough to pretend I'm the better baker.
Finished books 1 and 3 of the Chaotic Orbits series by @bethrevis.bsky.social (accidentally read 2 first) and they were amazing! There will be more, right? Please tell me there will be more!

Just finished reading "This Is How You Lose the Time War" by @amalelmohtar.com & @maxgladstone.bsky.social

Pure, exquisite, heart- wrenching poetry. I devoured it, and it sits heavy in my soul, waiting to be read again.

Just finished the novella "How to Steal a Galaxy", by @bethrevis.bsky.social. Did not realize it was the 2nd book, but was able to jump right in! Looking forward to reading the 'prequel' 😉. Story line hits a bit close to home, but I enjoyed every bit of it.

"Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soul has never been loosened or fertilised by education: they grow there, firm as weeds among stones."
- Jane Eyre, ch. 29

Just finished Jane Eyre. What an amazing story.

Just Mercy (2nd read- still sad, still necessary)

Excited to present these options at book club tomorrow night. I usually read fiction, but these are 3 of my fave (for vastly different reasons) non-fiction reads that I recommend to anyone who asks 😊

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING. This is the best short story I read in 2024, and soon it shall be yours.

Tamara Masri's "Inside the House of Wisdom" is brutal and devastating, as befits the subject matter, but the horrors are framed with so much hope and joy.

This is the eighth floor of the Al-Ahli Memorial Library, my favorite place in the building. When the elevator door opens, it’s like walking into a quiet circle of glass. So, as we walk, I’m going to ...

I just heard Megyn Kelly pose the question "do you think you're being Kavanaugh'ed" to Pete Hegseth and it just feels like a good time to repeat that I believe Christine Blasey Ford, and I believe Anita Hill, and Megyn Kelly is a piece of actual shit.

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

Just read "Off the Books" by Soma Mei Sheng Frazier. I love finding books by new (to me!) authors at the local library and really enjoyed this find and the ways it challenged me. It's the kind of book I know I'll randomly think about years down the road.

Love going to the library and seeing one of my favorite books as a staff pick! "Gods of Jade and Shadow" by @silviamg.bsky.social is a phenomenal fantasy read set in Mexico in the 1920's. Highly recommend! Don't forget, most libraries have a way to request books be added to the collection!

I love graphic novels! One of my favorites is "Shubeik Lubeik" by Deena Mohamed. The title is Arabic for "your wish is my command" and it's about the world if wishes were bottled and sold. One of the prettiest books I own with incredible world building! Tell me your favorite graphic novel!

Celebrating my son's 15th birthday today!!! He asked for a vanilla cake with orange cardamom buttercream frosting (from the @kingarthurbaking.bsky.social chocolate orange gingerbread cake recipe). Not the best piping job, but extra delicious!
