Wildlife artist in northern Vermont on the shore of a beaver pond with a talented, beautiful, and sophisticated Canadian captured in Montreal, three rescue dogs, and a stray cat who has been here for four years. #wildlifeart #adventure www.robmullen.com
Well, with all else going on ... Last week, I finished the writing and substantive editing of "Boreal Wilderland." The publisher has an expected release date of June 23, 2026, and has produced this thumbnail cover design from my painting "First Light."

Though an American (Vermont), I've spent a whopping load of time in your bailiwick. Used to live in Kirkland Lake even. Give that man shit (and maybe admit us to the confederation). Photo: me working on the Missinaibi River.

These two adopted me for 2-3 days in Angiaak Pass in the Brooks Range. Siblings, likely just kicked out by mom. Magical and nerve-wracking all at the same Twilight Zone time.

Winter, day two 5:20 am: topped up the feeders and got the dogs out. Nainette's (15) little feet need help in the cold. Big Shiloh never minds it. Piper is from Texas and feeling below-zero cold for the first time. Will be light soon. Inside with the fire built up and the tree lit. Coffee on.

The first full day of winter finally feels like it: -2° F with a breeze bringing the windchill to -16°F. Birds are mobbing the feeder, which I topped up at 5:30 this morning, well before light. When the dawn broke, he was back. #wildlife, #owls, #wildlifephotography

This is more like late fall in northern Vermont. Photographed from our south deck as I was taking the dogs out on November 30. We have quite a few species of owls here, but the Barred Owl is the most commonly seen. #owls, #birds, #wildlife, #photography

Mama Toad (Bufo americanus) out on a rainy, late November night in northern Vermont (our driveway). The good news, aside from the short-term enjoyment of the warm weather, is that she seems adaptable to our warming climate. #wildlife, #climatechange

Well, look who showed up this morning! Long-tailed Weasel in full winter regalia. Too bad it is a balmy 47 with not a fleck of snow in sight. Northern Vermont, mid-November and warm outside! In the short-term, I can't say I mind. #wildlife, #wildlifeart (will be)

Nainette in her prime. A great trail dog/hiking companion, my constant companion in the studio or office. Having directly rescued her seems to have created a special bond. BTW, her ears are only standing up because of the cold and her running. Normally the tips flop over (second shot with Shiloh).

After 300 miles by canoe to the coastal Inuit town of Nain, Labrador, Cole Johnson and I were headed home aboard the Northern Ranger.
Cole filmed me with the pup I rescued; otherwise destined to be "raven-picked bones in a snowbank." 15 years later, she is still here at my feet.

Nainette and Yogi wrestling in 2009. Yogi just passed away two weeks ago at 16 years old. Nain is now 15 too.

Ballpoint pen caricature of a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that hit a window. I only poked fun at him because he fully recovered (took an hour in my hands). We have since ruled vertical white marker lines on our windows and have had only a couple strikes since - about three years (all recovered).

Shiloh and Piper on our last big walk before deer season opened this morning. Piper runs 20 miles to my five. Shiloh used to but at 10 years old, he is probably down to half of that.

The commission was for a lifesized painting of a loon. The inspiration was two loons that appeared at dawn as I was anchored in Smugglers Cove on Valcour Island in Lake Champlain. The rising sun streams straight into the anchorage during much of the summer.

"Marsh Morning" Marsh Wren and Common Bluet in the cattails. 9" x 12" acrylic. Well, it's the marshy edge of our beaver pond. You almost always hear these guys before you see them.

"Above Below 'n Between" Much of my art is from the remote wilds of the Far North, but this is from the beaver pond behind our house.

I had never heard of BlueSky until I joined last night. I don't have the bandwidth to rail about Turnip and his ilk just now, so, some art. #wildlife #art
