3. Phenazine pigments contribute to biofilm development, a key factor in chronic infections. Biofilms protect bacterial communities from environmental stresses and antibiotic treatments, facilitating persistent infections.

2. The synthesis of phenazine pigments is regulated by the quorum sensing (QS) mechanisms. This system relies on autoinducer molecules, such as acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) & Pseudomonas quinolone signal (PQS), which coordinate the expression of various virulence factors, including phenazines.

1. Phenazine play a role in infections by acting as redox-active secondary metabolites and quorum sensing signaling molecules. They inhibit the proliferation of competing microorganisms & mammalian cells by inducing oxidative stress, thereby enhancing the bacterium’s survival and pathogenicity.

The production of phenazine pigments, including pyorubin, serves multiple functions for P. aeruginosa:
1. Virulence
2. Quorum Sensing Regulation
3. Biofilm Formation
