In 1983 the Labor Government legislated to prevent a dam being built on the majestic Franklin River which flows into the beautiful Macquarie Harbour.
In 2025 Labor promises to legislate to ensure Fish farming can continue to foul the harbour and destroy a threatened species of skate. Shame on them.

In Tasmania they used the word in the Huon Valley but it died out in the 70s I think. It referred to trucks, ie over 3 or 4 tonnes capacity. (Trucks in Australia used to mean only these heavier vehicles. Now the term increasingly includes large 4wd vehicles which are also called Utes)
