Labour Member, European, Welsh, comes from Hertford. Plays bowls badly, supports London Welsh and Arsenal. Will largely post about UK and European politics and socio-economic issues and things that amuse him. Will try to never be unpleasant.
I don’t agree. While what you say in a democracy is legal then we fight to defend your right to say it; however awful it is.

Which neatly sums up the problem.

Holding misguided views is not a capital offence in a democracy

If he means we need greater separation between the legislature and the executive and that cabinet ministers need not be in Parliament he may have a point.

Thinking about the Canal and Rivers Trust. Surely within their remit?

This was always a better and fairer approach. Just add the winter fuel payment to pensions.

Obviously we should not be sending anyone naked into the conference rooms of Europe unless they are in Sweden.

In broad terms we need to stop the politics, realise we are no longer protected by our cousins, work out who our friends are and work with them to create something that scares Putin.

This is obviously right but such a lot to do. Our intelligence community links, our nuclear arms, our media and much of our industry and service economy. Bought and sold by US gold. We are going to need to take a step back and then turn by 180 degrees.

This is not a very British discussion. Surely a sense of fair play dictates that the Nazis should be allowed back into power after being excluded for almost 80 years. I mean what are we afraid of?

UKIP/Brexit/Reform
Largely a Putin front. How have we let this happen?
February 24, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Well of course, Brexit was always about which capitalist model we should follow (European or American) plus some pressure from the Russians to destabilise their opponents ahead of their re conquest of their empire. So what’s new?
February 23, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Of course this is true. It is a positive. Problem is no one voted for it and, in the West, millions of ordinary people lost out whilst a lot of very rich people got richer. Graphics over the same period would show huge growth in inequality in Western countries. Hence the rise of the radical right.

Party memberships are not typical of party voters/supporters in the UK. This applies to all five parties with a National presence but particularly to the Tories and Labour. So most of the time members elect Leaders who are more extreme than their potential voters.
