A week after beating the Chiefs! The NFL is a crazy place.

That was shocking.
The Ravens win and Steelers loss were a nice (temporary) distraction from politics, but having the politics be a distraction from... whatever that Bills game was yesterday is pretty next-level :P.

OTOH, they didn't exactly get NOTHING. They get SNAP through FY 26, reversal of shutdown firings (though they'll likely rif right after reopen), guaranteed back pay (as already required by law) and a vote (that they will likely lose) in Dec on ACA.

Agree; the Dems almost *always* cave / give up too soon. It's anecdotal, but pretty much all of the federal workers I know/am seeing (who were really hurting) wanted them to keep pushing. This is a clear defeat and a huge letdown.

Well, the middle range is important. For example, if you have a 32GB sized structure, a factor of 2 may matter a lot. So very small and mid range matters a lot; kinda small and very big maybe matter less? Though I'd argue even kinda small matter if it's a 8 vs 16G cloud instance.

I have not intended to cause you stress. I will stop replying to this thread now.

Of course you are. Also, I am not (intentionally) litigating your replies, but rather responding to Mark's suggestion that Jeremy delete his thread. I don't see the benefit in that. Better, I'd suggest, that Jeremy boost your reply/quote than remove his thread.

And that's true not just for Watson, but for so many others:

Since discussing scientists who did profoundly bad/harmful things, or who just seem to have been horrible people, here is your reminder that Schrödinger was a pedophile who groomed a child & Newton was vindictive and petty, and helped identify people to be murdered for counterfeiting.

But I don't think that "separating" is a reasonable characterization of what Jeremy has written here. Others have (though again, I've not seen that here on bsky, but on the other crappy place), but not this thread. I don't think we should separate at all , but rather discuss/remember everything.1/2

this notion that people can't tell their stories, or that nobody should mention/discuss anything other than Watson's horrendous personal legacy, seems unnecessary & counterproductive. The guy was *horrible* in many ways, and also participated in some important science. Why can't that be discussed?
