Fundamentalism is "digital" thinking. Black/white, this/that, good/evil. It's a defense mechanism for the fear of living in a confusing, infinite, analog universe.

Every religion has a version of fundamentalism, and it's the source of many atrocities committed in human history.

Think analog.

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.

I've decided to do a Fundamentalist reading of Aesop's The Tortoise and the Hare. No more liberal woke allegorical bullshit.

First verse: (T&H 1:1) - "A Hare was making fun of the Tortoise one day for being so slow."

As you can clearly see, rabbits and turtles once had the gift of language.

the 80s had a high density of celebrities whose authenticity was hard to figure out, as a kid. like, was Mr. T a real guy? he was like that in shows/movies but also in interviews? or pee wee, elvira, max headroom, various wrestlers. even alf was on celebrity squares. it was a confusing time.

The English language is chock-full of words, connotations, and allusions from Christianity. If your native language is English, you're lil' brain is wired to think in Christian-ish ways *even if you try to have nothing to do with that shit.* Everyone has to deconstruct, even if you're in it.

Fun(die) Christian fact #2: Most fundamentalists don't know they are fundamentalists or call themselves that. It's unconscious. They simply believe they know the Ultimate Truth, that everyone else in the world is wrong, and that everyone else needs to change to be like them.

Fun(die) Christian fact #1: Every decision made, everyday, is to avoid burning in Hell forever. Imagine living in incessant fear of being physically tortured eternally. Many of your neighbors, your friends, your politicians live this way. How would your perspective change if you lived like this?

Religious fundamentalists miss the entire point of the stories they supposedly hold sacred. Imagine reading The Tortoise and the Hare and having your takeaway be "See? Rabbits and turtles used to be able to talk."
