I remember people freaking out for a bit when a video of a little girl trying to tap on a gameboy colour screen became popular lol.
It's hard to remember sometimes that these kids grew up with very different technology. Things that were normal for us could be completely alien to them.

Mint is a perfectly fine distro, for beginners or otherwise. It's what I used for a few years.
The feel of it, while not exact, is close enough to Windows, it shouldn't be too hard to get used to it.
