This photo was taken 7 years ago today. I’ve had the privilege to do so much in my life, but one moment that still leaves me stunned is when The Rev. Jesse Jackson asked me to sign his copy of my book. It’s a memory I will cherish forever.

Last night we said goodbye to Mipso at their fianl concert. It’s all been a gift. Thank you for the music and friendship and the memories. The band performed 1,300 concerts over 13 years. A remarkable run by any measure. We’re wishing you all the best in y’all’s next endeavors.

I keep thinking everyone should watch Wall-E again when we think that AI can somehow save us.

My youngest daughter told me she had found this brand new movie that was so amazing and worth me watching with her. She said it had just come out so we sat down to watch it… and she’s technically not wrong if the year is 2002.

Robert Redford died. Redford’s 1992 film “A River Runs Through it” should be required viewing in every seminary across the land. His work was remarkable, and his presence will be missed.

I turned 33 today. I had a chance to preach to a stacked crowd—my assistant principal from my high school, the nurse practitioner at my doctor’s office, and the publisher from the newspaper where I had a column.

It’s all grace.

I’m planning to lay out this plate from Season 5, Episode 11 of the Golden Girls with a slice of cheesecake on Saturday night as we approach the 40th anniversary of the show on Sunday to see what happens. 🤞🏻

The hit television show, The Golden Girls turns 40 years old this week—having premiered on September 14th, 1985. It’s one of my comfort tv shows that I often have on in the background or at night. I broke this sweatshirt out on our evening walk to start the anniversary celebrations.

62 years ago Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his speech at the March on Washington that personified a dream. One of my most cherished possessions is this gift that Dr. King’s daughter Dr. Bernice King gave me from that day. We have so much work to do, but we are bearers of a legacy.

Pick-up line was hard today—nothing compared to the unimaginable loss experienced in Minneapolis today, but we shouldn’t have to live in fear that this could happen in our neck of the woods.

Poet David Gate captures this sentiment perfectly and tragically.
