While talking about my dark fantasy work in progress with my D&D group, one player asked who my "Shadow Daddy" was.

Another player shot back: "If Robin's writing a shadow daddy, she's a brooding lesbian with daddy issues."

And honestly, that's fair.

And accurate.

And now, in my dark fantasy work in progress, I get to figure out the structure of a coming-of-age ritual.
Sometimes, it amazes me how many fun and interesting puzzles this manuscript has set before me.

THIS. *They stole your fellow writers' FUCKING HEARTS' BLOOD to power their fancy-ass text-based writer-imitation machine.* You wanna get all NUANCED about that? Your easygoing take on that issue will sooner or later (most likely sooner) be used to steal *your* stuff. Let's see how *you* like it. 🫤
And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

The semester is over, so I do not have to set my alarm. However, my real alarm went off this morning at 5:15 am.

What is my "real alarm," you ask?

One of my cats coughing up a hairball... somewhere... in the house.

Never forget the entire anti-trans hype machine is built on lies. It's not "cruel truths" or "two sides." It is blatant, deliberately cruel lies.

They are liars.

Never give them the benefit of the doubt, because they are proven, deliberate, malicious liars.
every politician who attempts to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth is anti-science, transphobic, or some combination. prior to their votes, they should be forced onto cross-sex hormones so they can experience the horror they're inflicting on these kids

As a writer, I'm definitely a plotter. I start with a 10-15 page outline and a fairly detailed story bible. However, I constantly reconsider and revise as new ideas emerge when writing. Sometimes, you have to scrap a plan when a better or more interesting one emerges.

Writing is art and craft.

Last weekend, I did a boudoir shoot. Here are a few highlights.

I am so tired of emails from scammers claiming to be "book clubs" who want to "feature my book." They all start with pretty detailed and specific praise but then expect me to shell out $75-150 for "exposure."

I'm not stupid, but I do enjoy hearing them flounder when I call them out.

Three days before Yule, and my air conditioner just kicked on. It was so nice when we were in the 30-50 range, but now... 50-78.

I dreamed last night I found the most perfect notebook: aesthetic, size, unlined, paper weight, pages numbered, built-in pockets, and a holster for my fountain pen. Everything was flawless.

And then I woke up.

Looking for something a bit darker this holiday season than seeking to avoid Whamhalla? Might I offer you my newest Louisiana Gothic Novel, a Faustian tragedy where a heroine is drawn into a dangerous romance and the path a serial killer targeting those who use wealth and power?

Today's writing challenge: describe the structure and sound of a musical composition written by an eldritch entity using parchment made from the flayed underside of an interstellar entity and scribed with ink infused with the screams of damned souls.

I actually really love shit like this.

So, with the semester over, I'm hoping to finish this dark fantasy novel with a strong sapphic romantic subplot by the end of winter break.

Today is the final grading push. 37 essays remain. Then I upload final grades. Then, I put my out of office message up as this semester will be in the books. (Grades are due by 9 am tomorrow)

Today was my first migraine in over two months. I shouldn't complain, because I used to average 3 a month, but after a weekend away from home, all I wanted to do was write and bake. And it's been a struggle, but I wore 700 words and baked a loaf of bread.

So, tomorrow is a boudoir shoot I promised myself I would do when I turned 40 (which was almost 7 years ago), and I'm having that "nothing worth wearing" panic when... I really need my best friend to help me narrow down my options.

The semester is almost over. I still have 203 finals left to grade (107 will be turned in on Saturday due to the “brilliant” schedule). This semester has left me exhausted. But it is almost over.
