Teacher, scholar, family guy, owned by really cute dog, lover of classical music and classical literature, rider of mass transit, relentlessly moderate in most things in life, spending more time in nature as I get older
This was taken 7 years ago yesterday–the little guy’s first time on a couch with me after we picked him up from a rescue at a farm in Delco. He’s assumed this position several times a day since then. We call it facetime. And he and I both have more gray hair on our heads than then.

We traded in our Honda PHEV for a slightly used electric VW (made in the USA) Used ev prices are insanely low.

Last hike was Elk Lake to Boreas ridge on the Marcy trail, trying to see if there’s a view of Mt Marcy. Alas, as you can see, that pesky 2nd growth forest blocks everything! Climb enabled by hiking poles, which I highly recommend if you’re older and with bad knees.

Accepting the aging curve means that after the forest walk to the climb and your legs say no to the climb, you descend to the lake, listen to the loons during lunch, hope the heron you startled returns, and you’re happy

Morning walk to the Teatro do San Carlo, seen here through the Galleria Umberto. I walk with Siri whispering directions to my hearing aids, so I look like I know where I’m going. Hearing aids are amazing. Get checked if you or a loved one might need them. You literally don’t know what you’re missing

Today we scaled the over 300 meters over Mt Vulcano on Vulcano, without oxygen, because it was there. But the dust and sun made me feel more like Lawrence than Hillary (though Lawrence didn’t make it to age 64). We start working our way home tomorrow. I love it here.

After a wonderful first visit to Naples we took the train down to Sicily, which features the marvelous ferry for the train. I hope they never figure out how to build a bridge here.

My annual ritual of a Philadelphia Orchestra rehearsal at end of semester. Second week with Tugan Sokhiev, one of my fave guests here. Gets the old Philadelphia sound and doesn’t try to act cute

Snow tubing at Snoqualmie in Washington. Crushing disappointment that they don’t have a special award for the oldest person here today

My support incl wearing lucky 2023 NFC champ tshirt has given the Eagles a halftime lead. I’ve earned a beverage. My first of the game, honestly. That pesky almost 64 years old thing…
