I enjoy the Bulwark’s podcasts on Youtube but am concerned that half their staff seem to regard Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman as sartorial role models. That said, I am guessing Zuck’s t-shirts cost several hundred dollars a pop.

This is one of the best Shostakovich performances I’ve heard in ages. Karina Cannelakis is a significant talent, marrying head and heart to an unusual extent. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT6U...

Hurts-haters really must learn at some point that poking the bear is really stupid

This was taken 7 years ago yesterday–the little guy’s first time on a couch with me after we picked him up from a rescue at a farm in Delco. He’s assumed this position several times a day since then. We call it facetime. And he and I both have more gray hair on our heads than then.

Given how little happened in the 2nd half I’m glad I’m too old to watch that part of night games while I’m not old enough to be retired. Today will be one of those days like Mike Schmidt once sort of described. The thrill of victory and the agony of hearing about on sports talk radio the next day

For what I assume is a limited time the Czech Philharmonic’s YouTube channel has a stream of a marvelous performance of Mahler 2 under Oramo. Fleeter than normal but not rushed, with one of the two truly great Mahler orchestras.

Have the Commanders won a game since you know who said he wants their new stadium named after him?

So I have an Espn account through Disney and it won’t let me watch the Eagles. It keeps insisting I need to sign up for a plan even though I’m already logged in.

I was watching Jon Stewart’s interview with Mandani just now and had been trying to figure out who he reminds me of from the past and kept returning to the word “happy”. The Happy Warrior Hubert Humphrey. The more I think of this the more it makes sense. If you’re young look up Humphrey.

I can’t shake the feeling that there is something really odd about Scott Bessent’s face, something unnatural. Botox? Surgery?

Last Sunday I wore my 2018 Super Bowl champion T-shirt for the first time this season. I wore it again today. 2-0. Eagles clearly got my message. You’re welcome, Philadelphia.

Carlton Fisk’s home run in 12th beats Reds, 7-6 - The Boston Globe
At 12:34 a.m., in the 12th inning, Fisk’s histrionic home run brought a 7-6 end to a game that will be the pride of historians in the year 2525.

The Towering Musical Integrity of Christoph von Dohnányi - The New Yorker

This is a terrific piece by Alex Ross, which begins with a touching letter from young Christoph to his uncle Dietrich. I wish we had more conductors now who were like CVD and fewer like Liberace.

I guess the Browns won’t be getting the #1 pick this year. Dolphins are playing like they want their coach fired

There’s nothing quite like starting your morning with overreacting to almost being run over by a speeding e-scooter on the sidewalk

1) Yesterday Yunchan Lim soloed in the Bartok 3rd in Philadelphia. While he is certainly a virtuoso pianist, he also sounded too young to be playing that piece; with his loud, relatively aggressive playing, I wasn’t sure he really understood it.

We traded in our Honda PHEV for a slightly used electric VW (made in the USA) Used ev prices are insanely low.

The US Open has an official who sole job is to decide which celebrities get free courtside tickets. That’s right, the Anna Wintours of the world get free seats. And I thought Josh Harris bringing Robert Kraft courtside to a 76ers game was nauseating (albeit for an additional reason).

Peter Gelb is selling the soul of the Met Opera to Saudi Arabia to try to recover financially. Has anyone told his gay MD yet? Or has the latter’s relentlessly positive attitude simply surfed over that moral quagmire? As long as his own checks clear?
