Got to see the largest surviving fragment of the 17th century Chehel Sotoun rug today. Marketed as the largest rug ever produced when it was cut up and sold off in pieces. Legend has it that it took 2 elephants to carry it from the Deccan to Isfahan. Who knew this was at the Cincinnati Art Museum?

Was lucky enough to get a tour of Sanjar Shah with Michael Shenkar just days before this article was published. He showed us where the mural fragments were from (and where they've found evidence for more). Such an incredible site.

Saturday we took a group trip to Samarqand on the Afrasiyab high speed train to see the Timurid sights. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun and something that couldn't be done without everyone at the ASPS and TSUOS. Looking forward to doing it again for 2027.

For the past 2 years (especially the last 6 months or so), I've been busy organizing the 10th biennial convention of the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies. The convention was held this past week in Tashkent.

After my presentation today, I was so hungry I could eat a horse. Well, at least a part of a horse on a nice plov. When in Turan?

But I also found some time to do some research for my paper at Ming Urik.

They are very nice bags custom made for the ASPS.

If you're coming to the ASPS conference, odds are you'll get a goodie bag hand packed by myself and co-chair Dr. Kazuo Morimoto.

Twenty years after their debut and marking their return to Epitaph, The Process of Belief is one of Bad Religion's best albums. And the follow up The Empire Strikes First includes one of my favorite songs by them, Los Angeles is burning.
