@schlorff.bsky.social American religion has shaped the character of our very young nation. The Protestant movement across the North American continent began with settlements on Indian land, and missionaries converting the native population to the “white Jesus”.

@esglaude.bsky.social Dear Prof. Glaude, just heard you puzzling on Nicole’s show about what ideology drives the Drumph behavior. I’m sure there’s a word for the fundamental idea that the world is composed of winners and losers. Law of the jungle? I think that’s at the root of it.

Afrikaner Refugees.
59 White South Africans (known as "Afrikaners") arrived in the USA on Monday. South Africa was governed by European colonists from 1948 to 1994, who enforced "apartheid" (what Americans knew as "segregation") until the revolution led by Nelson Mandela.

Legacy media hasn’t connected the emergence of consumer protections in the 60s because of industrial hyperdrive. When industry overtakes the capacity of people to adapt, government creates safety systems to protect us.

College faculty across the country should be canceling classes and holding day-long teach-ins to educate students about the social and political context into which this coming generation of professionals will be entering as leaders.

I mean, rocketships are always phallus-shaped, but ... this Bezos-designed "Blue Origin" craft? Nearly anatomically correct!

Gangster Government. That's what we Americans have created. Concentrated power, intimidation as the engine of policy. Citizens shrinking behind homes over-mortgaged, children shriveling behind screens they know as their only reality. Blackmail, extortion, threats of murder - this is out nation.

Drumpf's disdainful attitude toward members of the armed forces is the classic view of the royal classes. "Cannon fodder" is how the royals view the men [sic] on the front lines. In Drumpf's opinion, every other human exists to serve him and his appetites. When soldiers die, he thinks that's fine.

Retributive justice - The man whose eye is extracted in exchange for having taken another man's eye won't ever consider it a fair exchange. Another violence has been assured. Restorative justice - "I will right my relationship with those I've injured" - the humane kind of justice.

Now it's clear what "Make America Great Again" means. America's "greatness" translates as "global military and economic dominance". America can only be "great again" if we return to a national identity that is tolerant of slave labor and rigid class differences. Guilded Age redux.

Tariff wars are the economic version of shooting wars. Tariffs don’t blow up bridges or mutilate bodies with the same kind of explosive sounds and gruesome pictures. The masters of war will play along as long as they hold power. When the power shifts, bullets will fly and bombs will drop.

Can we talk about revolution? The word gets used commercially every day. But revolution means “turning the world around”. Harry Belafonte sang a song with that refrain. Look it up. “See we one another clearly? Do we know who we are?”

Some of us are shocked — shocked! — by the violence reported daily in the news. I’m afraid America has been violent for a long time. Of course I don’t mean each of us goes around punching folks in the face. But we are entertained by seeing others punching faces. And domestic violence is epidemic.

The Democratic Party in this country must become the Revolutionary Party. It’s no longer sufficient to have a “progressive” wing. The D Party must stand up as “The People’s Party” in direct, militant and clear opposition to the Corporatocracy.

The non-violent strategy and tactics of Mohandas Ghandi and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. have been effective in the 20th century. Activists in this century must renew our commitment to non-violence. It's not about conflict avoidance. It's not about no sacrifice.

Law has forever created a framework for social stability. That means it has enabled progress at the same time it has protected the vulnerable. It is now the hammer swung by the powerful to crush resistance. Is it not time for Americans to rise up?

Of course we do away with the Department of Education when we "love the poorly educated". The poorly educated are the most likely victims of grifting and con games. They live for the WWF Royal Rumbles where they can route for the biggest bully in the squared circle.

Bully. When you read that word, what is your image? For me, it's the character "Biff Tannen" in the "Back To The Future" movies. Thomas F. Wilson played Biff in all three BTTF films. He got his comeuppance from the McFlys, who outwitted and stood up to Biff, which created a more positive future.

Love. What does it really mean? To you? It gets used in so many ways. It suggests intimacy, and it suggests generosity. Families have it, commercials have it. I tell my female and my male friends and my children, “I love you”. I’ve studied it. And I still don’t get it. Help me!

America's would-be Emperor is mirroring his mentor on the far side of the globe. It's getting plenty of attention by the media, but shouldn't surprise citizens. Since the first Europeans arrived on this continent, we've been stealing the land from others. It offends some, but American Empire is real
