This was followed by protesters trying to block the police van driving off and chants to let the protester go - there was a lot of back and forth shoving and at least one protesters thrown to the ground by police.

Protesters occupied the streets around the embassy blocking off traffic. Police warned that if people didn't leave the street there would be arrests but protesters remained. There were two arrests - here's a video of the first.

There were almost 30 groups involved in organising with Hong Kongers, Tibetan, Uyghur, Chinese, Taiwanese and more turning up. However, the overwhelming majority of protesters were Hong Kongers - lots of black protest gear, umbrellas, masks, and flags. Reminiscent of protests in Hong Kong.

Photos from the large protest at old Royal Mint yesterday, the proposed site of the new Chinese Embassy in London. Well over a thousand protesters turned up opposing the move.

Was quite large, roads including tower bridge were blocked by protesters and there were at least two arrests.

They had the private meeting at Queen Mary, University of London before both participating in the China-UK Universities Roundtable which was also attended by heads of Chinese + UK universities as well as the Chinese ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang.

Regarding China, HTS has a potential issue as they are allied with the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP) a Uyghur jihadist group that aims to see Xinjiang province of China break away as an independent state. Below is pics of the TIP deputy Syria leader in Aleppo a couple of days ago.

On the 5th, citing the deteriorating security situation, the Chinese Embassy in Syria advised all Chinese citizens to leave the country.

Yesterday HTS's Political Affairs Department issued a statement in Chinese (below), Arabic, and Russian telling Russian and Chinese civilians that the Syrian rebels fight is only with Assad and "not directed against any foreign country or its civilians"

Daraa is significant as it's where Syria's uprising began. In April 2011 a 13-year-old Hamza Ali Al-Khateeb joined a peaceful protest, he was taken away by security forces.

A month later his body was returned to his family after he had been tortured to death.

Rebels have now entered Damascus province from the south. Kanaker town and the neighbouring 121st Brigade military base have been captured. Reports government forces are withdrawing from other towns around Damascus. Rebels are just over 20km from Syria's capital.

Feel sorry for the Syrian mapmakers who can barely keep up, Hama is now completely green as rebels capture the city from Government forces.

As pointed out by Calibre Obscura on Twitter, the opposition appear to have captured some Russian SSO equipment - there have been rumours (and a pic) of claimed killed Russian forces.

Opposition forces have captured 46th Regiment Base in West Aleppo. This was first captured by the Free Syrian Army in 2012 at the start of the Syrian revolution. A big deal for this offensive to retake it.
