How did the working age population (ages 15 to 64) change between 2013 and 2023? For one, it increased by 7.3 million. Which racial/ethnic groups were responsible for this increase?

Yikes! Wonder how manufacturing intensive states like #Indiana are doing? @josephpolitano.bsky.social

How is the difference between those under 15 years versus those age 65 or older changed over the past 24 years? Darker counties are those whose age 65 or older exceed those under 15 years. #AnimatedGIF

Check out my latest Substack data whisperer number crunching: components of population change: datawhisperer.substack.com/p/components...

Which of the three components--natural, international, or domestic--has contributed most to population growth or decline over the past 25 years?

A bit of number crunching today. Check out the soon to be released 2023 Digital Divide Index. Map showcases counties grouped into low, moderate, and high digital divide index scores. Notice any patterns?

Ok, so nerding out here. Was able to add DSL only access for 2022 & 2023. A new dataset launched in 2022 and was concerned continuity would be impacted. Seems like it is not. Based on percentages, not raw numbers. And yes, not necessarily housing units for 2022/2023, but close enough. Thoughts?

Per USA Facts: "In FY 2023, about 58% of federal spending went to three major spending priorities: Social Security, defense, and transfers to state and local governments."

Doing some number crunching for an upcoming book chapter. Here, I look at the quartiles based on the percent population age 65 or older and housing units with fiber-optic availability. Any trends worth discussing?

And here are average upload speeds. Again, there has been an improvement between 2019 and 2022. And while the difference between county types is not as large as in download speeds, download speeds continue to be much faster than upload speeds. This asymmetry needs to be improved.

Continuing to crunch numbers related to the #digitaldivide. Up next, average download speeds in Mbps from Ookla speed tests between 2019-2022. Speeds have improved regardless of county type. However, a divide continues between urban and rural non-adjacent to urban counties.

Doing some number crunching today for an upcoming book chapter. The decrease of DSU only #broadband was significant between 2014 and 2021 in the U.S. and all three county types using USDA RUCC Codes.

@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social: keep hearing "open borders" and about 10M let in.

However, deportations under Biden were among the highest (see graph). And found this article too: www.factcheck.org/2024/02/brea...

Can you shed some light on the actual estimated amount that "were let in"?

Super excited for the first regional #childcare stakeholder summit, as part of the Community & College Collaboration grant. Thos summit will map and understand this landscape using the community capitals framework.

And here is #urban counties, same y-axis scale.

Yes, housing, #broadband, and childcare are issues affecting most communities today. But senior care is poised to be a significant issue. Check out this age dependency graph for #rural counties in the U.S. Previously shared for the U.S. overall.
