Just watched “Good Boy” and they had a little making-of segment after the credits and this is *exactly* how the whole movie works. The dog was not trained at all, just the family dog. But the director understood the Kuleshov effect and made it seem like the dog was being incredibly expressive

Only, less of a “crime-fighter,” and more of a badass SJW—fighting the Czar in St. Petersburg, saving Mother Jones from the Pinkertons, that kind of thing.
