So uh…I looked up the NSF GRFP deadline for kicks and giggles and…what’s the over/under on how screwed this year’s students are gonna be? 🙃🙃🙃🙃😬

Progress! (Of course, the ones I care most about have to be *special*).

Here’s a great and handy guide on how to get your representatives’ attention from @ash.hematology.org

*rubs eyes* A minor miracle?!

*Deep sigh* Time for me to yell about this again. Training grants writ large (F and T mechanisms) are being choked off. Only a handful (a trickle, if you will) of NoAs these past few weeks.

See, as always, the funding curves generated by @jeremymberg.bsky.social 👇

NIH NoAs are slowing down again: a story in three parts.

(You know, if anyone was gonna work on that.)
June 23, 2025 at 1:09 PM
This, apparently.

Individual training grants also being held back.
June 16, 2025 at 3:58 PM
Institutional training grants getting absolutely stifled.

As part of our continuing series, today we have…baby cranes!

So it looks like the recision got rescinded or something? The original notice is back. 👇
June 10, 2025 at 3:33 AM
You’re right. The original notice is back. Some infighting behind the scenes?
June 10, 2025 at 3:32 AM
It sounds like this may be replaced with federal-wide guidance?
June 9, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Looks like that’s the one that was rescinded, but the language below about a federal-wide guidance is not reassuring.
June 9, 2025 at 4:07 PM
Mom, can you come get me? The NIH is slow-walking T32s again.

Okay, so I just want to point out that based on the paylines that have been released, they’re ALREADY diverting money to maintaining existing grants.

Also relevant is this chart from Jeremy Berg. If this money isn’t spent before September, it’s easier for them to justify the cuts.
June 1, 2025 at 6:40 PM
Goslings are now absolute units.
May 23, 2025 at 11:53 PM
I get that they’re trying to “plan ahead,” but I just want to point out that they are already not. Spending. The money.

Gonna start obnoxiously plastering @jeremymberg.bsky.social’s graph all over the place.
May 23, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Rescission of unspent funds is a different story and can pass with a simply majority afaik, which is why this keeps me up at night 👇 (chart credit: @jeremymberg.bsky.social).
May 22, 2025 at 4:07 PM
Once you get past the fury, the other thing that stands out is that apparently *every* grant now has to be approved by a DOGE staffer. So if you’ve been waiting and waiting on that NoA, this is why.

Goslings have become big little chonkers.
