Seawatching was the order of the day today in the wake of Storm Amy. As expected there wasn`t enough north in the wind at Cley, but still, enough of a blow for a few Sooty & Manx S/waters & a handful of Arctic Skuas + Gannets, Auks, Divers etc. #SuperSeabirdSunday

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

A revisit of the Pecs Sands at Sallthouse paid divdends this morning when a seemingly fresh in-off male Pallid Harrier cut across our field of view heading inland. c1 hour later I bumped into it again over the Cley reserve. Just brilliant. Glossy Ibis, Cattle Egrets etc were relegated to "padders"

Aside from a few Chiffchaffs & some emigrating Wildfowl, Spring is still very much on hold here in N.Norfolk. Out & about first thing on Saturday morning even the birdsong seemed surpressed by the still biting wind. The Marsh Harriers always provide good entertainment though.

Best trap result of the year so far last night, with 16 of 7.
No micros unfortunately (I`d love a literana or cristana)
Best was this subtle Grey Shoulder-knot & for contrast, the obligatory Oak Beauty

Mind blowing views of this pair of White-tailed Eagles food passing an unfortunate drake Long-tailed Duck. Such a special birding experience!

Glorious weather to be out & about on the coast this weekend. Not much to be seen in the way of visual migration apart from P.F.Geese leaving, but Spring is definitely upon us. Here`s a selection of photos from the W/E.

I finally caught up with the wintering Purple Sandpipers at Sheringham again this morning. Normally pretty easy to find, they`ve been a bit more elusive this winter, so I was more than happy when they flew in & landed on a rock in front of me.

A blast from the past for the Larophiles amongst us. An "omissus" type argentatus H.Gull from back in 2013. The only time I`ve knowingly seen one. It occurred during an influx of large Gulls feeding on a wreck of Razor Shells. Up to 3 Glaucous Gulls were also present.

Not that I mind Winter too much (apart from having to work out in it) but I`m sure looking forward to nights like these again. #moths #nature #Dungeness

Back to the gloom (& rain) today after yesterdays more than welcome sunshine. A trip to Morston produced the usual wintering Greenshank & on the way back home I picked up a flock of Geese that proved to be Barnacles. Nice to see whatever their origins (they looked wild 😉)

A bonus day off today & some Sun to go with it, so a few hours around Cley NWT was in order. Fairly quiet but most of the usual suspects were around. Had my 1st moth of the year too, surprisingly a Diamond-back Moth ! Photo posted is not the actual individual concerned.
