Been away from Bsky for a few months - one of which was spent in Italy. Is there a more sublime country on earth?

Ok. Back after three or four months… first excuse, in Italy for a month.

Magical

Second excuse, writing and golfing all summer. This week, finally finished my first draft of my first noval. 93,000 words. Political thriller, based upon current political figures.

Now. What to do with it?

Pure chance experience. In Las Vegas, dinner at Oscar’s (sublime btw), and walking past show room. I see a hostess…

“Are tickets still available for show? (in 10 minutes). “They are? Two please.”

No idea what the show is.

Was awesome. Go see Mavericks at the Plaza.

Been to Italy many times, but have never visited Milan (other than for changing trains).

Convince me it’s worth visiting.

Back in 23 days… Padova, Riva del Garda, Verona and La Maddalena. 🇮🇹

23 days and counting until we meet again Padova! 🇮🇹

Damn. Been listening to Post Malone’s new album (and added tracks on Apple Music) for three days - “F1 Trillion.”

The BEST country album I’ve heard in a long, long time.

I had been really enjoying @bsky.app as an alternative to political hate on X.

But, of late, it’s getting really hard to open the app.

The Pashkov Deception - keeps plugging away…

90 pages
32,500 words.

Question of the Day - it’s a present-day fictionalized political novel - do I keep the “real” people in the book, or change the names to protect the not-so-innocent?

Putin, Trump, Biden etc…

In the last 30 days:

Tokyo, Phuket, Banff.

In the next 90 days:

Montana, Vegas, Italy.

I feel like I’m starting to get this “living” thing down at 62 years of age.

Is it just me, or does it seem like award shoes for “art” like the Grammy’s or the Oscars are antithetical to the concept of “art” being valued and appreciated with the fullness of time?

Feels more like a long, dull, industry ad than anything anyone should pay attention to.

Political thriller. Character is gay, he’s fallen in love for the first time. As a hetero writer is it wrong to not include physical intimacy with his love interest? He holds hands - a big deal for him, his first love, he grew up in Montana, but it feels gratuitous to go farther.

Am I some kind of Luddite? I saw a post about using AI to help edit your work, and I was immediately like, "Hell no!?" Beyond spell check, the idea of AI changing or removing sentences or words that are otherwise grammatically correct strikes me as sort of the beginning of the end.

Am I wrong?

So. Woke up this morning realizing that TikTok was getting shut down, and I was flooded with existential dread.

Then I remembered.

I’ve never used TikTok.

Whew.

Listening to a Mark Zuckerberg interview in bed early this morning, still in throws of jet-lag, and I have to sit up and make notes.

It’s interesting how when you’re writing, everything you see and hear seems to fit in with the narrative you’re creating. Like “life” sends you content.

Travel experience is amazing.. but can be exhausting. Returning from Thailand and Japan, including drive home from Calgary, a total of about 45 hours in airports, on planes, and the last two hours in vehicle.

Would I do it again? Yup.

Travel Thought #7

Embrace nostalgia of past travel experience: It makes you feel good, it actually elevates self-esteem, it fosters social connectedness, and alleviates anxiety over existential threat.

“Live in the past” occasionally.

Rather curious how many Russians are holidaying in Thailand… signs in Russian, Russian food is common… almost like sanctions aren’t hurting as much as media suggests.

We possess the technology to create products that nearly never break. We were doing it in the 70's & 80's.

Then came 'planned obsolescence' - intentionally designing products to become obsolete or break quickly within a set time frame.

This is that- but in reverse.
