A dangerously packed PAT Stadium also put on a free rock gig after the game. The stage blocking the main gates out from the car park. The club have taken on Chang as sponsors meaning no other beer options which is massively unpopular not least through its connection to Buriram.

Sunday football…

Port 3 Ayutthaya United 1
Thai League 1
Ticket: 120 Baht (£2.73)
Crowd: 6,250

Port 3-0 up after half an hour against a team I suspect will finish bottom despite them scoring the goal of the game near the end.

Sukhothai, with their two wide men, and Baggio created until the vital moment. The winner was near the end when the keeper parried a free kick, which was followed up.

Excellent matchday experience. The new train link, as expected, is a game changer. Great company too.

Saturday football..

Muanthong United 1 Sukhothai 0
Thai League 1
Ticket: 150 THB (£3.40)
Crowd: 4,721

It was a bit of a damp squib in a downpour. It had the potential to be a good game until the rain intervened.

Lamphun Warriors in the top tier of Thai football are a great example of how to build gradually.

Read all about them with a recent game to watch Port FC, and my other visits to the old stadium, a couple of which ended shambolically.

A hidden gem is featured on my list of favourite football weekend destinations. It may become extremely popular as the city hosts the final of the Europa League. Food, drink, culture, and welcoming locals make the Basque region somewhere special.
