Biggest turnout to date in Raleigh for another nationwide protest. The crowds are getting bigger, louder, and younger. Today we're filling up the sidewalks in the heavily gerrymandered NC; it's only a matter of time before we're filling the streets.

"If America hasn't broken your heart, you don't love her enough." - Sen. Cory Booker, voicing the outrage, heartache, and fear felt across the nation in his record breaking speech against this immoral administration from the Senate floor. A clarion call.

We did the first section of chains on Angels Landing before deciding to turn back. The weather was rolling in and my husband started getting vertigo. Was an easy decision, and a lovely reminder that a hike can still be a great one, even if you don't "finish it." Our little summit was perfect.

My cat called for me, then climbed into my lap and fell asleep. She wasn't been a lap cat until old age so I'm relishing every second (which is good because this nap cycle has already lasted an hour and is projected to last at least one more)

See you later alligator. After a while crocodile.

Alligators are smaller, prefer freshwater, and have short, wide snouts while crocodiles live in brackish saltwater and have a distinctive toothy grin. Everglades National Park is the only place where both coexist in the wild.

Still hoping to stick your head in the sand about what's going on in the White House and its impact on your federally funded services? The National Park Service has you covered!

How many of these can you name?

The best #spring flower displays I've ever seen have been off random roads and byways in Texas, seen here outside San Antonio in March. No winter lasts forever. Work to bring beauty to your community.

For over a decade a lottery system has been in place to protect the area from overuse. Applicants have ~2% success rate for a Core Zone permit, and even with restrictions rangers still haul approx. 1000 lbs of trailside human excrement out of the backcountry each year.

I prefer the natural monochrome of granite peaks, sand dunes, and mountain ridges shrouded in mist so this week I've chosen the blue waters, blue hills and blue skies of Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, BC 🇨🇦 Why should National Parks have all the fun?

A10) If the question was which landmark do *I* love, it would be mountains for sure, but a more literal interpretation has got to be this heart I found eroded into the West Rim Trail in Zion NP, below the White Cliffs #ParkChat

A9) I have taken thousands of photos in the parks, but here’s a photo I didn't take that really captured the moment (credit to Zion Adventure Photog) #ParkChat

I recognize that picnic area! There were lots of memories being made the day we were there for sure. I got the recipe for those beans back when it was printed on the menu of Roosevelt Lodge - to this day it's one of my go-to side dishes for cookouts and barbecues. #ParkChat

A8) It's a tie between the bison spaghetti we made in the Black Hills outside Mt Rushmore - first time cooking over an open fire an undisclosed amt of years ago - and the fruit salads and guac we made while camping at Dry Tortugas NP. So many new flavors! #ParkChat

The ʻāhinahina, or silversword, is a rare plant of the aster family endemic to the summit of Halealakā. Silverswords can live upwards of 90 years, and bloom only once in their lifetime, sending up a tall stalk of flowers before dying.

My first backpacking trip was to Grand Staircase Escalante. It was there I discovered the missing piece of myself. To not see another trace of human activity across the horizon is deeply humbling and indescribably grounding. Public lands serve as so much more than non-renewable energy reserves.

Breathe in . . . breath out . . .

A moment of serenity in the Core Enchantments, Alpine Lakes Wilderness. What I wouldn't give to have that feeling again.

👀 Current state of our civil servants.

Not fun fact: AltNPS began in 2017 after the Trump administration suspended the NPS Twitter account for RTing a photo of inauguration crowds. Now it to spreads awareness of the troubling actions occurring within federal agencies.

A2) #ParkChat Outside of social media + online research, I often locate destinations by looking up public lands on a map. Last discovery (to me) was Anza-Borrego SP and Organ Pipe NM when severe weather blew us east after derailing a trip to Channel Islands. The desert was gorgeous!

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is the US side of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that straddles the border between Arizona and Mexico. This area of the Sonoran Desert - or Green Desert - is the only place in the US where the Organ Pipe Cactus grows wild.

Woodland Pinedrops (Pterospora andromedea) - a mycoheterotrophic plant that uses root fungi for nutrients rather than photosynthesis. No green leaves here! Found these growing along the Wonderland Trail in the river valleys of Mount Rainier.
