Friends! I forsook this app while we were moving, but I’m happy to tell you that we’re back in my home, on the Isle of Mull in scotland, and I am writing and foraging with my lovely family, and it’s raining, and I am just so so happy. Some delicious Horn of Plenty we found this weekend for you 🎺

I was a finalist in a New Ohio Review essay prize, and they published my essay this issue. I haven’t seen it yet, le sigh, but friends keep sending me photos from around the place. It took me years to work out what I wanted to say about this friendship that gave my wife and I our son. Here it is ❤️

I won’t be buying anything today. Instead I’ll be taking these croissants, that cost me about $10 in imported Irish butter, to friends or possibly eating them all myself. Trust me to bring baked goods into the resistance. #economicblackout

#5amwritersclub I’ve been cheating on you with the 5am baker’s club! Sorry and also, come on over once you get done with your drafts. I’ll be here with warm homemade (adding for an American audience: “from scratch”) croissants!

Good morning #5amwritersclub Today I am joined by a cinnamon bun named Bearo whose stomach gurgles quite close to me as I slash a 40pp essay down to 17. Happy writing!

First time back in #senegal for 6 years. I lived here a third of my life. #Dakar has definitely changed but kept its ramshackle urban beauty. I love seeing melons on the sidewalk, and mosques at dusk. It’s so good to be home.

The compost system I set up at my kid’s daycare has gone largely unused. I’ve been so frustrated and yes a bit angry about it. They don’t like insects, it’s too much work etc etc

Today I went to put my own organic waste in their bin (🙄) and lo! Someone has been composting 🍓🍓 on the sly 👀

💚

I’m headed back to Texas but this is the autumn landscape I’m leaving behind (the Isle of Mull).
