Really pleased to see this open dialogue about PrEP for HIV use by Black women in Essence. Black women make up 50% of new HIV infections in the U.S. yet PrEP awareness and uptake remain very low in this group.
PrEP doesn't only protect gay men, it protects women too!

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

Measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world. It spreads before symptoms even appear & can cause severe complications even in healthy kids. A child has already died in Texas

Vaccines work! As measles cases have recently been reported in Alaska, Georgia, New York, Rhode Island and Texas, it's important to remember that prior to the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963, measles killed 400-500 people and resulted in ~48,000 hospitalizations per year.

This is awful! These awards mean so much for a full, rich scientific environment filled with researchers that represent the entire population of the United States. Science will suffer. Research will suffer. Above all people will suffer. It’s a disgrace and an injustice!
Kirschstein NRSA Individual Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (Parent F31-Diversity) new closing date was two days ago.

The F31-Diversity applications are done.

Still trying to find out about current awardees.

I’m pleased that this piece about strong objections to RFK Jr. as head of HHS was published in the Arizona Daily Star. ASM did a spotlight article on me last February and it has also been taken down as “under review”. Other spotlight articles are still up so not sure how else to interpret this besides the obvious. It feels pretty crappy to have been singled out and I won’t be engaging with them in the future.
I want to expand on the extent to which IDEAA materials have been purged: I wrote an article last year for women’s history month on the history of women in antimicrobial development….DELETED.
I’m on one of ASMs IDEAA committees and we have received 0 communication from ASM staff on why this is happening. I had to find out via social media. Extremely disappointing.

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.”

University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.
