Do I have any experts out there who can tell me what’s going on with this lake in the Modoc National Forest?

These islands are each about 40 m across and appears to be made of rock and are vegetated.

The entire water body does not appear on NF maps.

People often assume that engineered channels have poor habitat biological conditions purely because of habitat degradation. But it seems pretty foolish to dismiss the possibility that bad water quality might also play a role.

I love this framing on studies of hurricanes from Christopher Patrick’s SFS plenary.

These anecdotal studies are important but they aren’t enough to move the science forward.

There’s a gray area between “important coverage of local trends” and “series of articles that push a narrative favored by a paper’s conservative owner”.

Bias is not always clear-cut, or evident in an individual story, but rather in the pattern of stories a paper chooses to run.
