I watched The Princess Bride for the first time in several years, and I still find it to be a special movie. What stands out to me is that it takes pretty much every opportunity it can to be silly, and yet it not only manages to avoid undermining the story but somehow comes off as incredibly earnest

Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics is out! There are a lot of tennis games out there that feel like a fancy version of Pong, but not a lot that actually play like tennis. If a turn-based game that focuses on tennis strategy sounds interesting to you, give it a look.

What a 5 set match looks like in Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics if each point only gets 1 frame.

I did a bit of play testing for Spooky Express, and it is easy to recommend.

Looks like I've got two more games to check out.
This Halloween we've joined forces with some other new puzzle releases and created a brand new bundle for a head-scratching Halloween that's out now:

Hauntingly Good Puzzle Games

🚂 Spooky Express
💀 Grooveyard
🧛Prince of Darkness Jr

Nintendo has no good options, but they want to avoid raising the MSRP if at all possible, especially after the backlash they have already faced over the price. I can see 3 options: 1) eat the cost, 2) pass on the cost (aka force retailers to deal with it), 3) delay the launch date in North America
Nintendo's unit cost on a Switch 2 is ~$300. Current tariffs add ~$90 - passed onto the consumer you're looking at $550-600. God knows how much else with 104% tariffs. Nintendo already has some launch units in the US so maybe they can still launch at the announced price? But after that? Bad.

It feels like a long shot, but I hope Kirby Air Riders still has a Top Ride mode. Air Ride and City Trial were both inconsistent fun for me (though I have high hopes for both in the new game), but Top Ride was fun every time.

Cannot recommend getting influenza the week before Steam Next Fest, but since I'm still sick I feel justified in spending some extra time trying out other people's demos

Steam Next Fest has started, so I hope you find some time for a bit of tennis. The Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics demo is available now.

Tennis is a little different than working to stop an alien invasion, but anyone who has played XCOM know the pain of missing a shot like this. If you too want to curse your luck, look forward to Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics.

Getting Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics localized is great because I'm learning important tennis terms in other languages. Perhaps none more useful than discovering that the German for "ace" is "ass".

Now if someone tells me my serve "looked like ass", I can say "danke" and take the point.

Alright, well, video games.

With 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico on the way, I can see a sharp downtick in the number of disc-based games that get released physically in the US, as much of that production infrastructure is in Mexico.

If they do get made, I expect higher prices both phys & dig.

Am I interested in using a joycon mouse to control a game? Not particularly.

Am I interested in dual-wielding two joycon mice to chaotically try to control a Nintendo oddity? Absolutely yes.

Two mice at once would be overwhelming for most games, but could be a lot of fun for a game like WarioWare.

🧵 It’s 2025, which means the Switch 2 announcement and (potentially) new tariffs are coming soon. The overwhelming majority of economists dislike tariffs, and the desired benefits of tariffs don’t really apply to the video game console market. Economic theory can help explain the issues. (1/24)

A lot of acclaimed titles I haven't gotten to yet, but here are my favorite video games of 2024:

1. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
2. 1000xRESIST
3. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble
4. UFO 50
5. Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
6. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
7. Balatro
8. Minishoot' Adventures

The announcements of Ueda's new game and Okami 2 make up for the fact that I am going to have to buy and play (and probably be unreasonably enthusiastic about) that weird Pac Man game.

I wonder if Astro Bot will ever come to PC. PlayStation has been bringing all their biggest titles over, but Astro Bot is so PlayStation centric it seems the least likely of their big games to make that move.

Strong finish from The Game Awards. Two best speeches of the night were the lead-in to game of the year and the game of the year acceptance speech.

Now that I've finished it, I must join the others shouting into the wind about how great 1000xRESIST is. Not just an all-time snub in the Best Narrative category for The Game Awards, but a big snub in Best Game Direction as well. It's a clear example of great direction overcoming other limitations.

Glad to finally be able to show the tennis game I've been developing. It's called Line Clipper: Tennis Tactics and, as you might have guessed from the name, it is a turn-based game that leans heavily into the strategic elements of tennis.
