A new Blue sky home for my thoughts.

Antifa is only controversial for fascists and their allies.
The Stan side of the Internet is not real life.
No particular order of importance to these lists, I'm certain I have made a point you agree and disagree with (perhaps multiple in both directions), and it's not like these are the only things that fit in each category.
If you interact with these, please be civil about it. We're all only people.

Things we have too much of:
Billionaires and exploited people. You cannot have the former without the latter.
White self-importance.
"Ironic" performative hate
Laws enabling/encouraging the worst parts of human nature and/or suppressing the better parts.
Hatred
Bigotry.
Yankees WS titles.

Things we have enough of and don't need more of for now:
Installments in current major film franchises.
Drab architecture that's trying to be "clean" "modern" "sleek" or "minimalist."
American military installations.
Oreo flavors
Reasons to despise the ultra wealthy.

Things we have a lot of already but I wouldn't say no to having more of:
Cute animals.
Art, of all kinds (written, audio, visual, film, clothing, interactive, culinary, etc.)
Ideas for a better present and future.
Meals with friends.
Teachers who love teaching
Joyous moments.

It's frustrating that people like you and me are going to be held to higher standards of decency with a lot more for us to lose than the people in power right now.
But we're also under no obligation to act with the casual evil that they are, and that they want everyone else to act like.
February 27, 2025 at 11:04 PM
Unfortunately, the people who need to change the way they're acting most are not going to. They're too heavily invested in things as they are now.
They run this show, they're making all the money, they have most of the power, and they have so many ways to keep people apart.
Why bother, right?

It's madness. It's dehumanizing everyone. It's not making me feel better because I vote a certain way, it makes me angry that other people aren't voting a certain way. It's undoing generations of social progress and economic stability, and making everyone miserable.
We don't need to do this!

Our representatives and senators become entertainers, political parties become teams, and God help you if you like anything that you aren't "supposed to" as a member of that "team."
It forces every piece of legislation proposed to be splashy and high stakes, even if it shouldn't be.
February 27, 2025 at 11:04 PM
That's the stakes we're at with American politics. And it does everyone in its wake a disservice by treating it like this!
Politics is messy and complicated, but writing about it and reading it shouldn't feel like medieval court gossip mixed with sportswriting. It distorts what's actually discussed!

But it was still just baseball games. I didn't need to worry that if the Yankees won I wouldn't be able to get my necessary medications for my ASD, depression and ADHD because Yankees fans would make it harder for me to access them, let alone afford them, or somehow ban me from them.
February 27, 2025 at 11:04 PM
I use "team" here because it feels very much like sports. Except this isn't any kind of sports rivalry.
I've called Red Sox/Yankees a "blood feud," but it never should literally be one. And I say this as a guy who despises the Yankees! Will never forgive them for beating the Twins constantly...

Whatever level of ironic detachment people have seemed to operate on for a while now as a way of coping with our current hellscape, where nothing really matters except for when it does, but only if you allow it to mean anything, it isn't actually helpful for us. Doesn't matter what "team" they're on
